The Colombo Magistrate yesterday ruled that there was no sufficient evidence to prove that final year law student and former Central province Governor Maithri Gunaratne's son Migara Gunaratne had obstructed duties of the police.
Migara had allegedly come under severe attack at the Peliyagoda police station.
The Magistrate who observed the B-report filed by the police alleging that Migara Gunaratne had obstructed duties of the Peliyagoda police, refused to accept the B-report. Producing the report, the Peliyagoda police claimed that on February 25, Migara Gunaratne who came to the police station obstructed duties of the police personnel there.
However counsel for Migara Gunaratne, President’s Counsel Saliya Pieris who appeared with counsel Upul Kumarapperuma showed the photos of Migara with bleeding wounds on his face and informed court that with such severe injuries inflicted on young Gunaratne it was impossible to believe the allegations made by the Peliyagoda police.
Subsequently the Magistrate refused to accept the B-report produced by the Peliyagoda police and informed that the police could produce any other evidence at the next hearing on March 1. The court also requested the Wattala Magistrate to visit Migara Gunaratne who is undergoing treatment at the Ragama Hospital and forward a report on his condition.(SUSITHA FERNANDO)

Perhaps it is already an obstruction of the duties of the police to look angry or grin cheekily. How many hours, of the lousy 840 hours of police training, are devoted to learning human rights? But what should you expect if the prerequisite for entering the police service is just to pass in 04 subjects of the (O / L) Examination.

Very Funny. Bribe kings, manipulators of evidence to false charges, untrustworthy scumbags creating false drug charges on innocent citizens such as, suspects being killed on trips to unearth hidden weapons and drugs grabbing policemen’s guns. No mention what type of obstruction caused or how Migara obstructed the policemen from their legitimate duties (which does not include the assault of course of which there is ample evidence) Very funny. These O/l educated A/l unable to pass group of Jokers’ dance. Cannot believe that they mistook the identity and went ballistic, without double checking the person’s identity, thinking we now have a punching bag to wreck vengeance for the previous days loss of face, which they knew would have been taken up and presented in court when Charitha Guneratne's case came up for hearing in the future when he appeared for the victim who was under there custody. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

This means, saying that this person has obstructed the duties of the Peliyagoda police, are they trying to justify the assault?
