The opposition yesterday requested the Speaker to allow parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen, who was arrested recently, to attend parliamentary sittings.
Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said MP Bathiudeen had a right to do so.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane said MP Bathiudeen should first make a request in that regard.
MP Kiriella said Mr. Bathiudeen had already made a request asking him to be permitedv to attend parliamentary sittings. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Allowing criminals and charged individuals to be in parliament, representing us, is something that needs to be changed in our constitution. Only a banana republic would allow this nonsense!
