In connection to the vehicle mishap that occurred in 2016 which left the victim bedridden, former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said he had not been found guilty of the accident and added that he had only been asked to give support to the ongoing investigations.

Addressing a news briefing yesterday, he said it was ‘simply an accident.'

He also denied claims that he had been driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

However, the police had informed the court that the CCTV footages had been erased.

Victim Sandeepa Sampath of Godagama was severely injured in the accident and is still suffering physically and mentally.

When questioned if it was true that he had allegedly threatened the victim’s friend, who had chased his vehicle following the accident, he said that there wasn’t any proof of that.

“The media fabricated the story,” he said.

However, the former minister has been banned from flying overseas. (Dinali K Wijayasooriya)

Why media is so much interested in this case? Ha ha this must be New media freedom?

It is your conscience what is more important. At least it was accepted that the vehicle belonged to the ministry. Instead of engaging in hair splitting arguments why did not you take any attempt to send this young man for better treatment? He doesn't ask for a minister portfolio. He asks for one thing.'I want to be able to do my own work.' What a crime you did? What an animal you are?

It was a set up accident by Weerawansa

    Sunil Sunday, 15 December 2019 02:31 PM

Oh yes, it was a "simple accident". The problem is that it ruined the future of bright young lad and you are definitely responsible. We do not know what you were up to, but, you will definitely rot in hell for this.

    Lesley Sunday, 15 December 2019 02:35 PM

Of course you were not found guilty as you and your government covered it up. You drove away and got another person to surrender as the driver and got cctv footage erased that could have shown that the vehicle was carelessly driven on to the main road from a by road

What about other cases. Like M. S. son accident, Cricketer accident. BBS accident, police offer died accident and like so many. What happened??!!!!!??

    Gayan Sunday, 15 December 2019 02:58 PM

It would be simple accident if you had admitted your mistake and made reperations to the victim instead of erasing the CCTV and intimidating the withness. Phyco mentality.

This is not a thing to laugh at! It is the accident victim and his parents who are suffering. Don't try to consider as a joke. He is young person. How pathetic to see him weaker than an old man. You people are making comments like heartless people.

Natural justice will now follow like the dragged cart behind the ox. Karma will not be dissipated by lying but only adds to the gravity of the payback.

No amak it reflects how the media freedom was at last government time. They pretend to have the freedom; but real.cause they did not allowed

Media has no special interest. It only reports facts.

Do not worry Dhamma loving sir. No politician is found guilty regardless of who is in power. They take care of each other

Well, you have to pay for ur sins. You have not been the angel u are trying to showcase. You use people and throw them away. You use the condom theory to the best among SL politicians. In short, you use masses for asses. Now, cough up. If u have done wrong u must pay. Good that media is keeping a focus on the case. We need to hold our politicians accountable.

had your government taken actions against those who committed crimes against humanity, you would not have faced this situation. system is trying to contain your political rights

This ............... is guilty of hit and run, tamper with evidence and intimidation of a victim. if this government is serious about justice, then immediately incarcerate him in to a general cell where the inmates will greet him with a broom stick.
