18 Sri Lankans deported from US

Eighteen Sri Lankans who were deported from the United States for illegally staying had arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake.

The group had been detained in the US by the law enforcement authorities for violating US visa regulations.

They were flown from Washington DC to Nairobi, Kenya and then returned to the country at the BIA on a Kenyan Airlines flight on Saturday night.

The group was subjected to PCR tests and were directed to undergo quarantine.

Airport officials said the CID will record statements from the returnees after they were quarantined. (T.K.G. Kapila)

No bg surprise. Most Sri Lankans went to the US on temporary visa and then overstayed. This was rampant in the 80s and we all know how OL qualified fellows got green cards.

Bro...Getting a green card does not need O Levels. Its about your efficiency that matters. Please be optimistic...we all are trying our best to provide the best to our families. I am not a supporter of illegal migration or absconding but everybody is struggling to achieve something in life. So please don't be a narrow thinker.

"Sorry Bon Bon" you are wrong, I lived here more than thirty years and working as a professional. I think this is the best country in the world. After my education in the UK, I returned to Sri Lanka and worked for 10 years before moving to the US, just like your president after waiting in line.

Only if our politicians pay more attention to increasing the income of Lankans (instead of telling us what to eat, what to wear, how to walk, etc.) these poor souls would have stayed back.

Why CID have to interview these returnees ? They are not criminals, if they are then what you say about the Americans who fled Europe after poverty and persecution, went to America killed the indigenous people in millions and stole their entire land from New York to California. And now calling themselves the most civilised in the world.

Not only eighteen from Sri Lanka alone; but more than 18 million visa wrong doers should be deported to their own countries, if the US applied the rule of law on this very eighteen people it's UNFAIR.
