Thirteen foreign nationals have been arrested in the Mount Lavinia, Welikada, Dehiwala and Nawagamuwa areas over visa violations yesterday, police said.
They said 10 Nigerians, a Thai national, an Indian and an Iraqi national were among those arrested.
Accordingly, six Nigerians aged between 26 and 35 were arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police at Watarappala on Sunday while four Nigerians aged between 28 and 30 were arrested near the Buthgamuwa Road in Welikada.
They were to be produced in the Mount Lavinia and Hulfsdrop Magistrate’s Courts.
A 20-year-old Indian was arrested in Rathmalana while a 38-year-old Thai woman was arrested at Nedimala in Dehiwala on charges of violating Emigration and Immigration laws.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old Iraqi national was arrested by the Nawagamuwa Police following a tip off at Kothalawala. He would be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate.
