Officials at the Bibile Hospital today discarded 100,000 paracetemol tablets after they were found to be discolored and unsuitable for patients. Doctors have detected the packets containing these tablets during a sample check at the hospital.

They said that these tablets were not suitable to be given to patients. A large number of patients seek medication from the Bibile hospital everyday.

The hospital authorities are now planning to lodge a complain on this matter with the Health Ministry.

the people who are responsible are given high rankings in the ministry. so what is the point of complaining. Sri Lanka is going into a huge mess.

Obvious fraud not negligence. Whatever it is, concern people must be punished. Is there an health minister?
Every where fraud, every where from top to bottom fraud malpractices cheating abuse/miss use of power .
I dont think we will ever come out of this mess, ever!

We must understand the truth here. Health ministry is one of the highly corrupted institutes in Sri Lanka and that is why every politician tries to bargain to become a minister for health. They get bribes in millions (dollars not rupees) to approve importing substandard and expired medicines which ultimately take our lives. Unfortunately we have no way to stop this vicious cycle or prosecute all these politicians especially in this era of “chinthanaya policy” where the whole system was anchored on bribery and corruptions. Unfortunately majority of our citizen are unable to realise the true colour of our leadership. Rather they are carried away by duplicity of our leadership.

This is not the first and may not be the last. Still no action from the government. Poor public are the ones suffering from poor quality and expired drugs.
Had similar experiences before with rubella vaccine and even deaths. Still the WHO report on that incidence was not produced by the ministry, which means that the report may have showed the drawbacks of the ministry.
The cost of the drugs + compensation for the people who get affected should be taken from the people in higher chairs of the health ministry.

Were the tablets imported or manufactured in Sri Lanka.?
