In an open letter, Shramantha Jude Jayamaha, who was convicted over the Royal Park murder and released on a presidential pardon recently, requested society to give him another chance.

“I ask for your understanding, because that is the kind of country we live in - where there is hope for even the worst criminal and mercy and forgiveness is a way of life. Please give me another chance,” he said.

In a lengthy letter, Mr. Jayamaha elaborated on his story, his family background, the murder, conviction, prison life and the pardon.

He said he has no adequate words to express his grief towards what has come upon the Johnson family and said he was so ashamed for what has happened.

We agree but what if all the prisoners ask for pardon. you are special from them.

Dilshan Ferdinando Thursday, 14 November 2019 04:19 PM

I believe forgiveness should come from the Johnson Family but there is no need for others to hang this young man. As mentioned there has been due process ( I hope ) and the fact that he has expressed remorse.

    Sandra Thursday, 14 November 2019 04:25 PM

Could not even get the family's name right! "Jonsson". Disgusted by this pathetic attempt.

Gerry Fahey Thursday, 14 November 2019 04:37 PM

Why don't you give the name of the drug dealer who provided you with drugs he is still doing harm to many innocent youngsters. Spill the beans if you are reformed.

Ratna Silva Thursday, 14 November 2019 04:56 PM

This is not a news item. It should have been a paid advertisement, if at all.

    David Thursday, 14 November 2019 05:05 PM

I guess there won't be any legal problem to release Duminda Silva also in this same manner.

    H.D. Fernando Thursday, 14 November 2019 05:07 PM

Before requesting another chance from the society, you have a responsibility to beg pardon from Johnson family at least once. The elder Bradley sister had said that you didn't even say sorry for the past 15 years

    ravin Thursday, 14 November 2019 05:30 PM

Oh If you can get victim's family life together and tell us how much funds were transferred between the parties of course we can consider your request.

Hugh jay Thursday, 14 November 2019 05:37 PM

You never gave another chance to your victim why should there be another chance for you?

    Dr.Herath Dhammika Thursday, 14 November 2019 05:59 PM

I have a simple question for you putha, did you plead guilty to the charges at the first available opportunity? did you go through the trial?

    KS Thursday, 14 November 2019 06:00 PM

Now I fully understand why some persons try to become someone powerful who would have immunity from prosecution

Doing a PhD in economics does not make you a good human, having human qualities does. Some humans are worse than animals.

    Venom Thursday, 14 November 2019 06:21 PM

This is why the death sentence should be implemented. So no one can pardon such merciless killers.

    Musthaq Thursday, 14 November 2019 06:33 PM

If he is asking for one more chance other such culprits also has the right to ask so many people repent later but they don’t get this chance oh what a system

    jimbo Thursday, 14 November 2019 06:38 PM

You are a disgrace to the society. And My3 should be held responsible for this insane move.

Parakrama Siriwardana Thursday, 14 November 2019 06:41 PM

Putha we hope you have reformed. But give us a bit of time to make up our mind, because some of us do have Daughters like Yvonne. You will continue to hear dislike and hate for some time but be strong and make all efforts not to turn bad again, and prove yourself. Do not get disheartened by negative comments, but be a good man. All the best

    Naazir Thursday, 14 November 2019 06:53 PM

Dear Shramantha, I have no say on the final Judgement, nor do I have the capacity to judge. I believe you sought justice the right way. May God heal all the souls who were affected by the horrible incident. I think you deserve to be pardoned when compared to the crimes that are being committed and going unnoticed by our politicians. May God be with you and show you the right path.

    Casanova Thursday, 14 November 2019 06:53 PM

Hope he means all these, it's entirely up to that girl's family to forgive him. Vote for democracy on the 16th.

    Thomas Friday, 15 November 2019 08:44 AM

You are a Rabid Dog let loose by My3 for a price???

    Kanishke Friday, 15 November 2019 08:45 AM

Prison should first be a place of reform, and only second one of punishment. Our prison system is a long way from this, but hopefully, despite its failings, we have a case here where reform has worked. It is our responsibility as society to forgive, and help ex-prisoners rejoin society.

    citizen Friday, 15 November 2019 09:14 AM

There is no point in commenting since no one can give life to a dead person neither could any person annul the pardon given by the President because sin will always follow you and to all those who have contributed.
