The Mount Lavinia Court has revalidated the warrant that had been issued for the arrest of Cecilia Kothelawala over her involvement in the misappropriation of Rs.26 billion of depositors’ money of the Golden Key Credit Card Company.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed the Mount Lavinia court today that despite a court order to sell the assets the Kalutara and Negombo branches of the Golden Key Credit Card Company had not sold its assets and some of the motorcycles of the branches are still being used by its employee.

At the hearing deputy Solicitor General Gihan Totewatte informed the Courts that investigations are being conducted now to apprehend V.R.Dharmasiri who is said to have misappropriated Rs. 78 million as he has left the recorded address of residence while the indicated amount of Rs.78 million is being audited. Also, it was disclosed to courts that already statements of 1,800 depositors have been recorded and that the assistance from International Police has been sought to apprehend Cecilia Kothelawala.

Surely if this woman is traveling on a Sri Lankan passport that would hardly be rocket science for authorities to track her down by invalidating her passport. Also if she was in Singapore as it was claimed, she could not leave without Singaporean authorities arresting her at the airport for traveling on an invalidated passport. There seems to be very little proactive effort to collar her; guess 26 billion can buy a lot of silence, corporation and people in places of authoruty!

A company swindles 26 Billion of public money and the state does nothing to use the law and dispose of the assets of the company and directors and repay the depositors, who in their right minds would want to invest in Sri Lanka.
