The Rathugala Veddah chief has been ordered by Courts to give written submissions to certify that they have sole rights to some land in the area.

The Monaragala District judge ordered the Veddha Chief and his community to give written submissions by the 29th of this month after a case was filed by another party seeking rights to the land.

The Rathugala Veddah chief had disputed the claim and said the land belongs to his community as his forefathers were also buried there. (Daily Mirror online)

    Can he write pojja?

    Harsha Sunday, 12 September 2010 09:23 AM

They are the original Sri Lankans. They should have more rights than the decedents of Vijaya.
They should be given at least 5 seats as MP through the list in Parliament .

I think the Veddahs did a better job in preserving their land before the court system came into operaion in this country.

These Vadda Communities are the guardians and protectors of the land and soil. Actually these people are the real original countrymen. Roman Dutch Law can't impose order against them!

There you are once again !

Don't look at them in disdain...and you think you can comment on what is wright or wrong..

    Mervin is there already.

Smart Aleck Monday, 13 September 2010 12:00 AM

Ananda, were they resident all over Sri Lanka? If so the 13th Amendment needs to be scrapped.

Visiting them yesterday am wondering if this community will be there in the future as the younger generation has started going to school and might shift to other related work. The crowd that comes to see them and disturb their surroundings should be curtained and give them at least 2 to 3 days of non visits by public. The Vedda kids are asking for money which is not a healthy sign.. They should be left in their habitat on their own for a while and give them freedom to walk in any part of the country.

    Manike Monday, 13 September 2010 03:49 AM

We should protect their rights. They are an innocent community who has more rights for the land than us. Also it is good if we can have few MPs from this community.

    M.ASHRAFF NAZIM Monday, 13 September 2010 04:41 AM

COURT VERDICT MUST BE RESPECTED BUT I AM HIGHLY WORRIED ABOUT VEDDAS COMMUNITY IF THEY FORGO THE LAND
