UNF invites Fonseka again

The United National Front (UNF) today once again invited General Sarath Fonseka and his wife Anoma Fonseka to join the alliance to contest the upcoming General Election under the elephant symbol.

United National Party General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka told Daily Mirror Online that UNF Leader Ranil Wickramasingha, in a meeting with Mrs. Fonseka this morning, had requested her to join the alliance and also requested her to convey the invitation to General Fonseka.

“Mr. Wickramasingha has invited both the General and his wife to contest with us and we are hopeful that they will join us,” Mr. Attanayaka said.

The UNF has also invited the JVP to form an alliance and contest under the elephant symbol in a bid to continue the group which was formed during the Presidential Election.

However according to Mr. Attanayaka, General Fonseka, his wife and the JVP are yet to respond to the request.

The newly formed Democratic National Alliance (DNA) led by retired General Sarath Fonseka had on Monday said that the doors were still open for the main opposition UNP to join the DNA and contest the April general election under its ‘Trophy’ symbol.

Anoma Fonseka in a news conference that same day said that she was hopeful the UNP will change its stand and join the DNA in a bid to free Sri Lanka from the grip of nepotism and return it to the people who are the rightful owners.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva had also said at the same conference that at the presidential election the opposition political parties had stood together to achieve one goal but the UNP’s decision to contest the general election under the elephant symbol had hampered efforts to project a united front.

The Election trophy will go to the UPFA and it will be a good contest for the 2nd spot; especially in Colombo ... Will the General beat Ranil's team? The JVP 'will live to fight another day,' with Fonseka carrying them!

If UNP can combine the Symobol of Elephant as "Elephant Trophy" It may solve the this petty issue about this Symbol, since both the major parties have and are working towards the same goal. I wish you both parties Best of Luck in the coming General election.Please compromise for the sake of the public. I know both have compramised a lot compared to the situation you'll were 6 months before for the sake of the public. I AM SURE BOTH OF YOU'LL CAN GO THIS EXTRA MILE TOO. This tug of war is going on for a long time. It is not the elephant's policy or trophy's policy Sri Lanka
needs.Policies are coming from the human being's
hearts.All hearts must get together and contest with
one theory. Do not much worry about symbols and confuse
the people. People know what is best we are living in 21st
century. If you cant solve the symbol problem ,tie the trophy with the chain around the elephant's neck and put forward as symbol to solve the problem.

All must be united under one umbrella at this crucial juncture of SL. As the UNP is the main opposition party they have the rights to invite other parties and it is their responsibility to respond positively. We must highly appreciate the sacrifice made by ranil at PE as well as JVP. SF also will be protected if all are united.
