Trishaw drivers who play loud music using stereo sets are being warned by the police not play loud music while driving as it disturbs the general public as well as the driver them selves.

Director of Traffic ASP Anura Silva speaking to Daily Mirror online said that although no prosecutions are taking place the three wheel drivers are being educated and warned by the police regarding the nuisance and sound pollution the loud music played by their  stereo systems are causing to the general public.

No - peace will only come if they charge the lottery sellers too.

    freedom Wednesday, 04 August 2010 06:33 AM

police dont know what they are doing ....

    Shihan Wednesday, 04 August 2010 06:40 AM

Great Great Great. The best news ever have. One more addition, It will be really apprecited if the relevant authorities took measure to educate three wheel drivers on how to follow road rules. They just sneak in as if they are the king of the road. We need decent taxi drivers. Also meter taxi made compulsory will be ideal. One more thing, How about banning unnecessary horning. That will make our roads a much better place to drive.

    Hatim Wednesday, 04 August 2010 06:54 AM

Very good move by the police... It is good for the public..

    UDAY Wednesday, 04 August 2010 06:56 AM

Great action, needed to grant public a peaceful environtment

Jim Jam Wednesday, 04 August 2010 06:56 AM

Sound Pollution is an important matter and must be taken up at the highest levels, Not ONLY 3-wheelers but Some Private Busses too emit very loud noise from their silencer/exhaust system which is much worse than the loud music of 3-wheelers but police turn a blind eye to this.... why???

    Citizen Wednesday, 04 August 2010 07:05 AM

Mr iw, what about the loud speakers on poya days which could be heard miles away !!

    Sham Wednesday, 04 August 2010 07:06 AM

Yes, Goverment must introduce Taxi Car Service instead of These 3 wheelers

Loud music may be sweet, when compared with the sounds coming from modified silencer barrels of private buses. Can the environmental Authority check on the noise level while they check the emissions?

Senior Citizen Wednesday, 04 August 2010 07:16 AM

I( agree these sweep sellers are much much worse - at least three wheelers have music but the lottery sellers have only noise as you cannot understand what they say.

    aji Wednesday, 04 August 2010 06:07 AM

I hope this is applicable to the the three wheeles who are selling bread/bunns early in the morning. They keep sounding music tones (choon paan music) to inform the public that they are in the area. This happens early in the morning around 5.00am. They are distrubing peoples good sleep. Please apply the law to them also

    w.g.l Wednesday, 04 August 2010 08:04 AM

not only three wheelers but every where must have a stop to all the noises after evening. i am from MORATUWA, people in the night are also doing timber sawing there. pleases put a stop to these things in future. thank you

    RajasH Wednesday, 04 August 2010 08:49 AM

Mervyn will tie the drivers up to the three wheeler if you dont obey

    saman Wednesday, 04 August 2010 09:25 AM

ha how about the three wheel bakery fellas ! who comes and disturb the parents pockets !

    Manike Wednesday, 04 August 2010 09:26 AM

It s a very good decision. ***** 3-WHEELER DRIVERS SHOULD BE GIVEN A UNIFORM LIKE THE BUS CONDUCTORS AND METERS FIXED. ******
Iindia has a very good transportation system. Specialy in Bangalore.

    Nihal Wednesday, 04 August 2010 09:29 AM

Same warning should be given to temples.

    eresh S kumara Wednesday, 04 August 2010 09:53 AM

    good work

    Rajitha Wednesday, 04 August 2010 10:02 AM

i think it's already banned but nobody's taking it serious i think.

    FT Wednesday, 04 August 2010 10:23 AM

well my house is near a mosque and i dont find it that disturbing as the prayar or what ever...(Muslim friends pardon me for not knowing what it is) stops in few minutes.

    shane Thursday, 05 August 2010 06:13 AM

    welldone! good move.

    D Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:10 AM

    Good show! :) :) :)

    Roshan Wednesday, 04 August 2010 04:21 AM

Very good move by the Police, even better if they ban playing of Music by the Three Wheeler.

    MaPer Wednesday, 04 August 2010 04:24 AM

Not only loud music - what about the law making it compulsory to fix meters?

    Dheen Wednesday, 04 August 2010 04:27 AM

Why don't you extend this to the private buses too as they are the worst !

Ruwan Ferdinandez Wednesday, 04 August 2010 04:32 AM

How about organising the Three-wheelers like a proper taxi service? At the moment, depending on how vulnerable the passenger is, they would charge anything and do whatever they want.

    Farshard Wednesday, 04 August 2010 04:35 AM

    yes its good move indeed,

    Dinesh Wednesday, 04 August 2010 04:57 AM

yes this is a good idea...also same should apply to public buses, because people going in them have to put up with the noise. Also what about these bright LED lights on 3 wheelers (sometimes like a pandol) , these are a eyesore for other drivers during the night..it distracts and sometimes almost blinds you so that you are unable to clearly see the traffic. Hope the police will look into this...

    T. Ruth Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:05 AM

Loud Music in private buses too should be banned.

    zeereez Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:07 AM

why is this not exercised for some Temples as well where they play a cassette at 6 in the morning and evening which is also a disturbance to the general public since its heard miles and miles .

hope readers will take it positively and come out with a positive plan with a broad mind.

    Geegee Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:09 AM

no more Tuk DJ's. YESSSS. thank you

Nishantha Rajapakse Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:09 AM

    three wheel malli

    Sicillian Wednesday, 04 August 2010 04:19 AM

    Thank god. Its so important.

    suwimal Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:10 AM

    Yes, very relevant!!

Lional De Alwis Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:14 AM

    Very good decision.

Also, police should ban multi coloured lights fixed to vehicles because it is a disturbance specially driving in the night.
Punishment can be "mervton's law of tree tying"

    citizen1 Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:17 AM

It feels like a building is about to crash and we are busy picking up invisible specks of dust around it!

    bash Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:18 AM

Good move, I was under the impression that the policemen on the roads were deaf all these times

    shehan35 Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:32 AM

I hope they can stop the private buses tooting their horns forcing people to give them way too. Actually more than banning music on Three wheelers, they should take stern action against the dangerous driving by the private buses.

    Milson Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:34 AM

Good move, also warn them about the gimmick lights and warn the bus driver for unnecessary horning and their noisy silencer beat

    Manju Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:37 AM

Oh I am going to miss the Tuk Tuk DJs.... specially one who goes down my lane around 4pm in the afternoon if he is copped .... whose music is so loud when he passes by on the road it wakes me up from my sleep all the way in my room.... Works like an alarm clock for me ...

    RB Wednesday, 04 August 2010 05:52 AM

Lottery sellers too need this ban pls... tks

    iw Wednesday, 04 August 2010 06:05 AM
