Prime Minister D.M Jayaratna warned this morning that a new military wing of the LTTE was forming to seek a separate state and as such the Emergency regulations should continue. He also said that Tiger proxies were making preparations to convene their ‘Transnational government of Tamil Ealam’ in Switzerland next week to coincide with the first death anniversary of LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabakaran.

The Prime Minister stated that V. Rudrakumar who acted as the legal advisor to slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is trying to form a ‘provisional transnational government of Tamil Eelam”.

For this concept, he said, Mr. Rudrakumar is trying to secure the international support. On the other hand, he said that LTTE sympathizers in England had formed a front called ‘Global Tamil Forum’ based on the Eelam concept.

Mr. Jayaratne said that another set of hardcore LTTE activists had relied around a person called Nethiyavan for the same separatist goals.
“All these forces are trying to carve out a separate state in Sri Lanka. They are acting in different ways to achieve their sinister targets. There are intelligence reports in this regard,” he said.

In France, he noted that 24 LTTE activists had been arrested since 2008. “In 2008, 30 LTTE activists were arrested in Italy. This year, five and seven top level LTTE leaders were arrested in Germany and Netherlands,” he said.

The Prime Minister pointed out that LTTE operatives in the international sphere are trying to provide financial and material aid to LTTE members who now remains silent in Sri Lanka after the war victory.

“Their sole objective is to arm the LTTE members and use them for a military struggle again,” he said. The greatest challenge confronting the country, he said is to defeat these LTTE networks operating outside the country.

Commenting on the LTTE carders in custody, he said that 11,700 LTTE members surrendered to the military or were arrested. He said that 1350 of them had been identified as top level hardcore LTTE members and legal action had been initiated against them. Besides, 10,350 LTTE members are held in rehabilitation camps in Vavuniya.

“Recently, 2400 such LTTE cadres have been rehabilitated and reintegrated into society,” he said. Mr. Jayaratne pointed out that valuable information is being extracted from the arrested LTTE members by the CID and the TID. (YP/KB)

Do you believe that you can prevent any one forming a "Transitional Government " in a foreign country by continuing "emergency regulation" in Sri Lanka ? You are reading a speech prepared and given to you by some one with out knowing the contents..

They are still 'building castles in the air.'

The diasapora network will try to re-group the terrorists in in Sri Lanka - the government should be alerted and more vigilant, in respect of these threats.

... Where is the extended rap version? ...

I live in Europe and am deadly against the LTTE. I would blame the SL govt for regrouping of the LTTE. Even after finishing the war and winning the election the govt has not come up with a political solution that is acceptable even to the moderate Tamils. Also, the HR track record of the SL govt is appaling (fate of Prageeth, Lasantha et al) and the West is very unhappy with the SL govt. Yes I agree with the PM that there is an ideal environment begining to prevail in the west for the regroup of the LTTE but who should be blamed for this? It is the govt!

This is statement is just to extend emergency Rule, come on PM you think all Sri Lanken are stupid to believe this kind of statement

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 09:40 AM

    Hi Prime minister,
Your boss says that he finished LTTE and brought the country under one flag. Are you disputing your boss. Please think positively, remove all security provided for all the ministers including you. Those days Prime Minister Dhanayake traveled in train from Colombo to Galle. Think about that period and believe that there is no security threat from LTTE.

Important to keep Sri Lanka safe, have the emergency rule extended. Insurrection must be nipped at the bud before becoming
Frankenstein monster. But don`t use emergency rule to suppress opposition politicians who have different political views or opinions.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 09:07 AM

good move. let the foreign governments be aware why we keep emergency laws in SL. put pressure on them.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 08:57 AM

Emergency regulations should remain and must not be removed for at least 3years from end of war. After another 2years the GoSL can remove emergency, but not before. We lived 27years with war and terror, emergency regulations for 3years should not be a problem for people who learnt to live with terrorism. Better safe than sorry!

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 08:33 AM

Let them form a Transnational Government or even a Transvestite Government for all we care. As long as they keep their activities beyond the shores of Sri Lanka it won't bother us.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:37 AM

Any ruse to keep the Emergency regulations in place!

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:47 AM

Yes Dilan, Why dont we stop talking about the past, but using the lesson we learned from those events, take the country to prosperity, develop the economy.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:43 AM

An excuse to extend the emergency

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:33 AM

As did his predecessor, the present prime minister too is just making statements for the mere sake of it. Lame stories just to keep emergency regulations in force.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:32 AM

VP is gone.. and there is more no LTTE except some people using its name for their living

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:26 AM

The only solution to prevent the re-emergence of LTTE is to recognize minority rights in Sri Lanka.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:22 AM

What does the Government of Switzerland feel about the existence of an illegal alien Government within their country?

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:12 AM

NO WAY ........why U R lyinging . Do not mislead the people.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 07:03 AM

So, you must extend Emergency Rule.. Then what about Emergency Rule SEC-23 is it released? bcos this is the dangerous one for the Tamil people.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:46 AM

Ok Prime Minister, then what did your president tell last year, that they have finished LTTE and now its gone. you are saying this to keep the emergency regulations.

    Tuesday, 04 May 2010 06:43 AM

As a country, there are lots of things to talk about than one and only subject of LTTE. Everyone talks about the well being of Tamils in North & East, so how about the people who reside in the other part of Sri Lanka. I thought once they won the election, they will never talk about LTTE to gain political advances, hoped would only talk to develop our economy and the prosperity of the country. But it seems that the future of Sri Lanka is in gloom.
