According to a proposal which is to be moved by UPFA member of the WPC Jagath Kumara, the ban on tuition classes will be effective till 2pm on Sundays and throughout the day during Poya days.

A similar ban is in effect in the Southern Province. (YP)

    Friday, 04 June 2010 10:21 PM

This is a good ban but should be only for Buddists. Let them go down even worse than before. Why should we Christians suffer.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 01:23 AM

Make the parents believe in teachers.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 01:24 AM

Very good move. In the same time expand the Daham Pasel in the city.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 01:40 AM

The reason the ban should not be for religious reasons. Any person should have the freedom how to utilize that day. Govt. should not dictate the people what they should on these days.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 02:50 AM

Poor foolish politican's trying to be smart by getting cheap desions.

No head to do use full work.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 02:52 AM

shaaaa well done by our quality politician , they show their knowledge ,??????????????????

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 02:57 AM

this gov have no faith in citizans ability make the correct choice....religon have no place in developed world..we can try to prove them wrong .....but well be only delaying the inevitable.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 03:48 AM

Intelligent voters??? If we had intelligent voters, we would not be in the mess we are now!

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 04:37 AM

so what about muslim, hindu and christian students??

    Friday, 04 June 2010 10:12 PM

How dare you asked this question? This country does belong to sinhala budhists

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 04:45 AM

    Dear Citizen,
    SL is a democretic country.
it means, decisions are taken by the majority.
nothing possible to do with 100% agreement.
    it will never happen

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 04:46 AM

Well then these politicians will get more votes!! simple logic

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 04:55 AM

Deprivation of basic rights! Ours is about to become a fundamental and almost extremist country.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 05:14 AM

absurd.how about classes held @ residences...only poor children will get affected..

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 05:15 AM

What about in other provinces? If is to ban the tuition classes it should Islandwide not in only one province.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 05:15 AM

Excellent, although i am not a Buddhist i think these children need some sort of relaxation at least on a Sunday.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 05:38 AM

Through this "WISE" decision, should all the students be attended in Daham scholls..... or what????

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 06:37 AM

They too should attend Daham Pasal and become Buddhist to eliminate the racism in Sri Lanka.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 07:13 AM

Very good move, so that they can become more stupid and introduce more stupid regulations.

    Saturday, 05 June 2010 07:32 AM

Honestly, what a silly, backward country.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 05:08 PM

No wonder Lee Kwan Yu of Singapore very recently called 'you know who,' a ... extremist!

    Friday, 04 June 2010 01:10 PM

So this is Democracy eh? Well done. Muppets.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 01:23 PM

Last year(with Sunday and Poya tuition) O/L FAIL percentage was over 50%. (someone said that figure is similar to gen. election results, but politicians always say our voters are intelligent, hik hik hee..)

So now without tuition can imagine the next year's result. People in power don't want to implement some practical solution, in fact they wanna put so-called religious mask and further degrade the already degraded education, so that they can secure their account of so-called 'intelligent voters'

    Friday, 04 June 2010 01:25 PM

    Will it be effective?

    Friday, 04 June 2010 01:26 PM

    Another ban on Morality.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 01:31 PM

also should ban UN , NGOs, INDIA giving tuition to SRI LANKA
    how to run our affairs.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 01:31 PM

What about non-religious people? no chance for them?

    Friday, 04 June 2010 02:09 PM

its for all sri lankan students or ?

    Friday, 04 June 2010 02:23 PM

Excellent move. Cancel the tuition classes entirely and make the school teachers work. Make the children believe in teachers.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 04:05 PM

Our 'wise' leaders at work again!

    Friday, 04 June 2010 04:19 PM

    Excellent! Very nice move!

    Friday, 04 June 2010 05:04 PM

If proper teaching were done in schools, there would be no need for tuition.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 01:01 PM

This is ridiculous. Where is freedom of choice?
oh i forgot, freedom is running away from Sri Lanka, and we don't care.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 05:32 PM

'Democracy' or 'freedom' does not mean that the government should not interfere, when things are out of control.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 05:55 PM

What about Hindu, Christian and Muslim students?

    Friday, 04 June 2010 05:59 PM

Trying to show the world that this country is the most religious country in the world?

    Friday, 04 June 2010 06:35 PM

Why not ban tuition forever and press the teachers to do their jobs, satisfactorily?

    Friday, 04 June 2010 06:50 PM

If the government were to fully ban tuition, this would encourage teachers to teach far better in schools. Banning only on poya days and Sundays is futile.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 07:09 PM

This ban should only be for Buddhists!

    Friday, 04 June 2010 07:33 PM

We're all expected to do what the government tells us. No exceptions and no questions, or else ...

    Friday, 04 June 2010 07:49 PM

Taking-away each of the 'freedoms' that we, as citizens of this country, are entitled to enjoy.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 08:55 PM

One may choose to make this the subject of an FR application to Court.

    Friday, 04 June 2010 10:01 PM

this is a useless excercise.. just becaus there is no tution, students will nto come to the temple..

in addition, choice should be left to parents.
