Senior students of the University of Aesthetic Studies have been forbidden to meet with first year students due to the fear of ragging and also stopped them from participating in the events organized for the first year students, Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) said.

The Federation said that the university administration had prohibited access to the University premises in Kohuwala due to this.

“The administration does not need to fear that there will be any ragging, we will do our best as a student union to ensure that this doesn’t take place,” the Aesthetic University Student Union President, S. C. Wijesena told Daily Mirror.

Mr. Wijesena explained that it was unfair of the administration to prohibit the students from entering the university premises in Kohuwala as the library and the computer facilities were there.  “We can’t use them or the canteen for an emergency as we have been prohibited to enter,” he said.

He explained that the administration of the university had stopped the senior students from taking part in the programme and had also suspended students for asking the administration not to prohibit the senior students from participating. “These are organized by the students themselves and they were not given any prior warning,” he explained. What if a senior has a love affair with a junior

    Muhammad Wednesday, 01 December 2010 05:06 AM

Excellent move!!. I hope that senior student take this as an opportunity to do more work on their subjects (Don't fall JVP's hands). JVP can now stay in the corner room and just count the new posters ( where they do arrangement for ragging). From experience the IUSF members never go to lectures or study just sit in the corner room and screw all students up. IUSF is going to stop the ragging??? what a joke!!! They are the one who give all the barbaric ragging ideas.

Guys, IUSF will talk what you and I can't even imagine, and they will create a heaven on earth. But ragging takes place with full blessings of IUSF. They never want to stop it, and they do not have a survival without ragging.

    shanthi Wednesday, 01 December 2010 03:12 AM

It is always better , this nonsence has to be stopped once and for all.

Imran Hameed Tuesday, 30 November 2010 07:19 PM

Great Move. This policy should continue until all deranged seniors are out of campus

    raj Tuesday, 30 November 2010 06:03 PM

These sadistic practices must be stopped. The people responsible for ragging should be arrested and rehabilitated, or better still jailed for 5 years each.

    raj Tuesday, 30 November 2010 06:00 PM

Not just the higher education, these people are obstacles to everything good happening.

Very funny this: " unfair of the administration to prohibit the students from entering the university... as the library and computer facilities were there. “We can’t use them or the canteen for an emergency". Stop grumbling you cretins. What emergency? Go use an internet cafe or a buth kade if there is an emergency. Anyway you JVP thugs restrict others from using the library to advance their knowledge. When you are allowed in, Mr. Wijesena, drop politics and concentrate on your studies and learn how to be civilised citizens while you are on taxpayer funded education. Once you have proven that you can be anything other than thugs and sadists, you can mix with the juniors.

Ruwan Ferdinandez Tuesday, 30 November 2010 05:14 PM

What a stupid idea! How long are they going to be kept apart? The senior rats will wait for any long.

I have a better idea. Make the time the students spend on-campus only one year! They can take more students in, in fact can easily triple it. Make the students work from home for the next two years. This way, no seniors will ever see juniors! Make me the minister boss.

Ampare son Tuesday, 30 November 2010 04:26 PM

dear new comers dont get bugs from senior students.

    Deepal Tuesday, 30 November 2010 04:12 PM

Reading the headlines I thought this was all about the Senior ministers and the junior ministers.

Superb. hope this continues until the old culture fades off and new decent uni culture grows.

Loku Maama Tuesday, 30 November 2010 03:19 PM

Good Job by the administration. IUSF working against Ragging? - My foot. We people might be dumb when voting but not always.

    beau Tuesday, 30 November 2010 02:48 PM

Ragging should be banned, it is a left over rotten culture from British public schools. Our so called patriotic students inadvertantly adopting these rotten ideas. Coem on students, wake up, and do something useful for the society and your fellow students. I think ragging is inhumane, insulting and for some students it leaves a trauma in their lives that might never be erased.

    Matahari Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:45 PM

Not a good move, this means more policing, where it is going to end & for how long. The authority must take action to prevent provocation by solving the co-issue. (Prevention is better than treatment)

    Fair N Square Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:42 PM

Good move. Eradicate the Rag culture from all places. Its been a social ill for way too long. Decent gals can't go to uni with this in force, so they choose to give up higher studies cos of these GOONS. Shud have been nipped in the bud, anyways its not too late.

    Better L8 Than Never.

    Nilantha1 Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:32 PM

This is where they start ragging...!!, stop letting them to meet new comers

    I Hussein Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:30 PM

Good one. Do try and change all out dated rotten systems.

    Saman/South Africa Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:21 PM

IUSF is the main obstacle for whole Higher education in Sri Lanka

    pbj Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:17 PM

However freshers will come to know what a mess is the university , but it will take little bit of time this time.

    VERMIN Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:14 PM

WHAT IF IT APPLIES TO SENIOR MINISTERS AS WELL ?

    Fayad Tuesday, 30 November 2010 12:10 PM

Good move, Ragging should stop completely

Abdul Razeen Tuesday, 30 November 2010 11:59 AM

The IUSF will ensure that ragging will not take place? My foot
