UNP reforms committee has suggested scraping the authority party leader Ranil Wickramasingha has in appointing almost all members of the working committee, UNP MP and party spokesman Gayantha Karunatilleke said.

Karunatilleke told reporters the reforms committee had also recommended limiting the working committee members to 86 where 66 members would be from various associations affiliated to the party while the remaining 20 members will be appointed by the party leader. (YP)

First ask him to get out...!! UNPers do not have a back bone to chase him. still dreaming to rule the country.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 03:28 PM

It is not the fault of RW, that the UNP lost so many elections - it is because, as a nation, we don't deserve a genuinely honest leader.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 03:26 PM

The party does need a complete overhaul! However, Ranil is the only man in the party who has the experience to lead the country. If he steps down, the party wil be in the hands of amateurs, and then, will be no better than the UPFA.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 02:58 PM

Charith, I agree. As it is, he is betraying something more than the Party - the country is being denied an alternative government.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 10:36 AM

Every one working for personal agenda and no one for country or community

    Monday, 07 June 2010 10:17 AM

Sincerely what Ranil should understand is that he has created a bad image among the public which has damaged the party much more than what he has done to party over the years. If he is a Gentleman who loves UNP he should move out of the leadership and invite a capable person to succeed. He did this at the time of presidential Election by supporting the candidacy of SF without contested. why cant he does the same now, before people completely lost the faith in UNP

Reforms committee should be sacked for not having the backbone to recommend leadership change.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 09:17 AM

Its not that easy to replace RW. Reform committee has realised it. Memebers must forget all their differences and work together to chase this regime out. Its not difficult at all. In a couple of years this govt will be so unpopular, like sirimavo's 70 govt.. Ranil must be there to lead the party and take over the country, of course Sajith can be his duputy.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:54 AM

Waste of time. Sorry UNPers….. We don’t have Lalith Gamini type people in this party anymore. Leader must show his colours before blaming others. Too late Ranil you must go now.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:54 AM

If the UNPers spent half of the energy they are now spending on chasing Ranil out to highlight corruption and nepotism in the ruling UPFA, then at least the UNP would have become a force to be reckoned with by now. They seem to be obsessed with Ranil phobia when in actual act the members themselves can hardly dream of winning a seat at an election.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:36 AM

Ranil please step down as a gentlemen.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 07:17 AM

What happened to the elections that were planned? Hmm looks like it's another eye-wash with nothing concrete coming out of it. UNP maybe damned to eternal opposition.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:23 AM

    RANIL PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE STEP DOWN.
YOU CAN BE THE ADVISOR TO THE PARTY..

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:21 AM

I think UNPers should find an energetic deputy to work along with Ranil. Ex;JRJ-Premadsa combination.Nothing wrong with Ranil as party leader.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:19 AM

Ranil it is time for you to leave. Let Sajith Premadasa lead.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:17 AM

What has happened to the much talked about reforms or is this the reforms that these so called reformers asked for.RW is only capable of hanging on to the leadership of the UNP through his appointed stooges in the working comittee. He will never walk among the common folk of this country only the colombo elite will vote for him.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 08:06 AM

RW should have stepped down honourably. He failed to do so, and now he is going to tarnish his image. What a sorry state of affairs!

    Monday, 07 June 2010 07:48 AM

Exactly, what about these elections for ALL positions. Now that would be a powerful exercise in democracy. It is abundantly clear that the comparative youth of the party need to play a major role.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 07:45 AM

Why wont the UNP guys get together to curtail the governments power. Everyone is calling for Ranils pound of flesh forgetting that he was once the Prime Minister of this country.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 07:44 AM

The UNP hierarchy has no right to think only about themselves. It's high time they got their act together and start working for the people who have never left the UNP but are in the wilderness now due to the selfishess of the leaders.

    Monday, 07 June 2010 07:37 AM

reforms, reforms. But in the end Ranil is the leader

    Monday, 07 June 2010 07:34 AM

I guess the UNP has to change it's name to Shameless People's Party (SPP), which is the best suited.
