Cant police trace them without doing this coz this will affect their families, children, parents. Ultimate goal is to stop their work so police can do this without doing this recommendations. There may be stories from their sides so its better not to publish their faces on news papers then our bad people will chase for family members too. That is obvious in our society.

    TMA Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:24 AM

What's the point they haven't hurt anyone. Funny thing the photos of theives and murderers R never publicized. The ppl the public shud really B aware of. This only shows that SL has turned in2 a cheap fanatic country

    Ganga772 Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:27 AM

I have heard that some girls do these things pretending the families that they work at top level companies for higher salaries. By doing this parents will get embarrassed

    Ramzeel Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:36 AM

For some reason or other these people were involved. However their privacy should be maintained because of the social stigma that may be arise.

    robinson Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:39 AM

Well, banning porn is a debatable issue and I partially agree it banning not hundred percent. However I am not commenting the court order. As some viewers have said first we should look at their side of the story. We should not pretend to be that we are pure people. We are humans and lets not act as saints for petty political gain.

    Teng Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:41 AM

Haha..what happend to our some parliments members?

    sham Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:46 AM

Its better to take preventive actions.
These people may be doing to protect their families.
They may not be doing willingly this job
Publiciing will not good for the entire nation.
Do a rehabilitaion work while giving some sort of living aid to there family members

    Prasanna Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:47 AM

100% agreed. There is always another side of the story. Moreover, I have heard that some of these videos were filmed clandestinely thus they have technically become Porn-stars. And some were distributed by opportunists (boy friends, paramours etc.)

As TMA says, Why don't they publish photos of Criminals and those who misaapropriate public funds, accept Bribes etc.

    TMA Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:48 AM

    Dinesh Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:57 AM

Good opportunity for any TV station to have another Mega show with these stars.

    Athula K. Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:01 AM

This is a sensitive issue and as Pandula rightly said, at least some of these porn stars should have unbelievable stories from their side. My view is everything cannot be solved by law, rules and regulations, as the law has only one eye. So as a nation we should watch from both eyes. Authorities should carefully check these ladies and bring them to court if they have violated the law, but the lives of their family members should not be risked, as we have lot of such examples. Having said that, I must mention that no debate about in tracking down these things, as what’s the value of development we are looking forward to gain, without protecting the cultural values of Sri Lankan nation? May they realize this truth!

    chami Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:01 AM

This is ridiculous. The practice of adultery is not uncommon in our high society, and not to mention with our MP's.Why go so hard on this issue. There are abundance at large, committed grave crimes than this. As mentioned by previous comments social embarrassment on family members would be a concern.

    Ranjith Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:02 AM

They may have done without knowing the damage, but good lesson for those who are on the line as porn work!. Media freedom ans better make these vailable for all and to discourage the wrong doing. Also put tax defaulters and big time smugglers in the paper.

    lankaman Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:04 AM

With due respect for the judiciary, I think this is a very bad decision. I hope somebody will legally intervene to stop this.

Judges are also human and they too are open to making mistakes. The last bad decision was to again allow loud musical shows after 10pm. On the first such musical show 2 youth were killed.

sounds like a plan to pacify some extremist close minded group. before doing this someone better think about people who are in this situation unwillingly and also what this will do to their families and loved ones. some of these people have children in schools!

    kap Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:18 AM

SOME OF THESE POLITIKKAS ARE ALSO PORN STARS..ONLY THING IS THAT THEY ACT BEHIND SCREEN.

    rasika Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:18 AM

Prostitution is one of the oldest profession in the world. Even some countries have legalized this profession. No countries in the world could stop this. The normal trend with the development one can observe an increase of this type of activities may be due to various reasons. We don't endorse this move.

    Faqi Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:21 AM

This is an utter violation and abuse of the power of the courts.
The damage this would do to innocent family members would be tremendous. This is not Saudi Arabia, we are an enlightened democracy, we should not violate the rights of these individuals.
This magistrate needs to study the law as the rights of the individuals and the society.

    NAS Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:46 AM

If so they should also publish the pictures of all killers and rapists. Now that will be somewhat useful for the general public.

    sw Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:47 AM

Pornography is another ailment in this society in addition to gambling, corruption, drugs and lawlessness. Before gunning for pornstars GOSL should try to eradicate the other evil ailments which are destroying the society.

    lankaputha Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:48 AM

In Ancient history, a similar thing happened when Jesus was there. He asked, throw the stone at first who has not done a crime. Similarly, let the judges who has never ever looked at a porn picture, give the first photo to the media.

    Kevin Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:49 AM

Publish photographs of people who rape innocent girls too.

    This isa very stupid decision.

    dil Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:55 AM

pandula! I appriaciate ur idea..it will definitly be affected for their families and relatives..Why the hell the police cant trace them if they know their faces..

    Anton Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:56 AM

Oh! This is very good publicity at no extra cost for those who need publicity for their profession but on the other hand it is basic violations of human rights if these girls have been filmed with web cams without their knowledge. There are so many hidden web cam videos going round in the world and this move to publicise in the papers is very stupid.. As some have commented, there are girls in this trade without the knowledge of their parents and it will be very embarrasing for the parents too. I wonder whether these police officers, politicians and also the ones who are trying to trace these girls haven't visited these brothels and enjoyed the company of these girls?

    Leon Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:58 AM

    Hello,

It is extremely unfair to put their faces in the paper. They may be individually punished but their acts must not put the families into shame. They are human beings and they have parents and families. Please be fair on them.

    Leon

    mnsmart Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:00 AM

Pl publish the pictures of drug lords too.

    Sumith Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:01 AM

If they are now leading good life, this will harm them and their families.
Final Option for them may be their former job at brothels.
Pl. do not publish these photos. only get the owners of the porn sites and take actions against them.
Some ladies may have participated this activities wthithout knowing they are being videod.

Unarmed Gunman Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:03 AM

These people are not that bad compared to our politicians who suck all our money - steal public money. This decision is too much, there are many many other things to correct in this country, first make those things perfect.
Btw, What is the punishment for Mervin for his question at Paba?

    lankaputha Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:07 AM

looks like some big people are expecting a 10% from porn start too... not from money though....

    kushantha Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:07 AM

Oh common guys. What's wrong with these people. Porn is wrong ? It's way of expressing one aspect of human life that every one has to enjoy. Don't be so stupid. Our kings were open minded than fools nowadays. Go to sigiriya and see 5th century expression of sex. Porn is part of sex education and it has to be there to avoid sex maniacs been produced later. It's an art. Way of expressing how you feel about it. These things should be handle with extreme care. Be open minded.

Sadarana kota Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:09 AM

Why porn stars in news papers ?...Why not we make prostitution legal in the country...I myself a doctor who knows the growing trend of social diseases and many countries are taking the measure to legalize prostitution..
why not someone take a proactive measure .... Just because pictures are published can someone stop prostitution happening in the Island.. In srilanka SEX is a topic where people are ashamed to discuss even with a doctor, Most teachers doesnt like to teach these subjects at school the exact way they should be teaching, Parents doesnt like to discuss these matters with their children..
Why not the court order to educate children with sex education from 11 / 12 years onwards.

    kushantha Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:11 AM

Children are people who is less than 16. Every adult has right to have sex and if she/he wants to record it. They have the right to distribute it to people who wants to watch them. Of course parents should know what children do not what adults do ? It's their own life.

    Modawansa Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:14 AM

    Saradiel Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:23 AM

Define Porn Stars! What about the socialite ladies seen in the arms of Minister sons' and Presidential sons? Only the poor can be subjected to this shameful (so called) act which has many clients from the elite. What happens to rising stars who are supposedly made to indulge in a little frolic to gain acceptance. I suppose we have a very very puritan society that cannot be tainted in the slightest way.

Sadarana kota Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:24 AM

What is the legal action for prostitution. . Its just a fine not more than Rs 1000/= if im not mistaken, so whats the point in publishing the pics..Is it just a measure to make these STARS embarased..

    RanFerdi Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:25 AM

I don't know how you will take this... But as my belief Porn movies is a part of entertainment and this part has to be regulated in a manner that this will not affect adversly to the society.-Such as making everyone aware of ratings and blocking the access of children to these porn material. The fact is most people are scared of the truth and shy off of speaking it. I wonder how many commented above against the porn in life did not watch a porn because its porn..

    Dinesh Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:01 AM

If we publish photos of Criminals and those who misaapropriate public funds...there will be quite alot of people in parliament and Provincial Councils who will have their handsome faces posted on the papers...so instead lets harass the porn stars

    Invictusrilankan Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:03 AM

This is absolute non sense. In other countries similar things are done. But ONLY for Sex Offenders and Particularly Child Molesters / Paedophiles. This is done so that people can be cautious about these individuals BECAUSE they have a track record of causing harm (physical / emotional) to others. But Porn Stars are not HARMFUL or DANGEROUS (just for the sake of being Porn Stars that is). If that is the case I am sure there are lists and lists of other type of Stars that need to be printed on Papers way before this is done. Building a Human Society with Morals is a Good ideal to have. But we must not forget that Humans are after all The most Intelligent Animal on the Planet.

    22/7tin Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:05 AM

    Anjula Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:07 AM

Banning porn sex sites is very very important. But publishing photos to peopls is very bad Action. Because I have seen most of porn videos taken by someone hidding to them. So what happenned tha inocent people who really don't know that someone is getting viedos while they having sex. this action is directly reflect to them to be caught & be harrasment from others( Police Officers, Etc.... ) so My idea is to stop this immediate & keep full stop to porn sex sites like countries as Saudi Arabia where i am working now

    Nish Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:10 AM

The courts should definitely re-consider this matter. Isn't our country supposed to be the DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SRILANKA?????

    lankaman Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:13 AM

your concern is good. but if we do what you say, then contract killers, drug peddlers and thieves will all say the same excuse.what is important is for the judiciary to examine the context and apply the law impartially.

srinath gunaratne Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:17 AM

    sinnan Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:20 AM

it's obvious that our judges go to karaoke & Nightclubs which is their freedom.
Why only punish these poor porn stars by publishing their face in news papers without taking action against the people who organize filming and screening? don't have their freedom?
Are these pornography is published in news papers?
Is it the police want News papers to include porn materials?

    xlntgson Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:29 AM

@Faqi, in Arabia they won't publish the name of the accused or criminal even in cases of lesser offences, KP was the name given to the Sri Lankan jerk driver who got three months in Dubai!
Publishing names would be a crime against humanity for an example if there is a person in my name then I should release statements that was not me someone etc. xlntgsong was a name removed in the list of such sites, it will be ridiculous and a vague would say "why he is stoutly denying?
He might be the one among"
Same names sometimes with initials people have!
If you go to some towns all are silvas, pereras, appuhamis, mohameds and lingams.....

    Padma Thursday, 04 November 2010 10:35 AM

As all given comments ,this verdict is an unnecessary thing and creating nother problems….. counrty law and order service is paralyzed in sri lanka now. They don’t know what are the needs and give the priority.

Four Eyes Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:14 PM

Well they could just publish the photos without saying what they are wanted for, but they should do that together with the pictures of other people wanted for questioning over other matters. The wanted poster is a useful tool but I believe it has been done away with because the same pictures will appear on political posters and people will get confused.

    dp Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:56 PM

very confusing..whatever pictures or videos should be well scrutinized before publishing a picture..there would be so many which were captured on hidden cameras without their consent.. trying out a dress in a changing room of a store , could end up in a newspaper as a porn star....it's serious issue ..

    Capsule Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:56 PM

Faqi do we practice democracy in Sri Lanka???

    concerned Thursday, 04 November 2010 01:11 PM

I guess some of these videos are filmed by couples who are in love and later the boyfriend distributes them as an act of revenge for ending the relationship. I'm speculating here, but this could have very well happened in some cases. I sincerely hope that this won't result in any suicides. In a society where premarital sex is largely taboo, one wonders how people would cope with this.

    garawi Thursday, 04 November 2010 01:20 PM

Not a good idea! Instead fine them heavily and send to correction centres, not jail them. We need to remember some women are driven to this kind of activity due to poverty ! They need help to overcome it.

Imran Hameed Thursday, 04 November 2010 01:21 PM

After the war, we all hoped for things to turn out better for Sri Lanka. But everyday we are seeing irrational behaviour and thinking. Decision are being made out of ego and emotions of a twisted nature. Its monkeys rule. God bless Sri Lanka

But remember. There are worse things are happenning in this Banana Republic today for which these so called judiciary is dumb. Charge me for contempt of court. 'Paththa giyath aththa kiyanawa'.

    kanishka Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:27 PM

Vatsyayana wrote Kamasutra in 2nd century, if he was living today he would have directed so many films based on his famous book and would have won a record number of Oscars. India knows it very well; otherwise if they too decided to publish photos of their talented porn stars, there would be a big shortage of newspaper materials in the world. Unfortunately still Srilanka is living in the Victorian age, and lawmakers of the country should advice the rulers to change the existing laws to suit the present day needs. Please study the human behavior for that best way is to go through the famous Kinsey Report.

dirty politics may be behind this dicision. Our country is going in to a huge economic crisis and the gov want to restrict it in developing a political cricis. They need some isuues regularly to mislead the masses. If they want to show such justice, why don't publish all criminals including dirty politicicians and their henchmen.

We still have a lot of brain less donkeys in high places.

Doesn't our police have more worthwhile work to do than running after porn stars. What a person does with his life is his right and if it does not affect other people there is no justice in hunting them. Can our judges direct this inefficient police to go after criminals, drug dealers, murderers who are a bane to the society rather than going after individuals doing what they want. Or is the law implementeors looking for porn stars to satisfy their lust.

is this not a violation of Fundamental Rights? Not in favour of pornography but is that not allowed in a democratic country?

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 05 November 2010 09:44 AM

One cannot understand why this fuss about publishing the faces of the so called porn stars in the media, when they themselves are not ashamed to even show their private parts in pornographic videos which are in any case in the public domain ?

Senaka Wickramasingh Friday, 05 November 2010 12:02 PM

The face must be deleted and the rest of the body must be published. Ha ha haa

    oshanda Friday, 05 November 2010 12:43 PM

This is a disgrace to most of the innocent women in these videos calling them porn stars, who were filmed by their husbands or boy friends, and circulated thru MMS, they are further humiliated by this way.
Last week Girl in India Committed suicide after her boy friend circulated the MMS, we could here more cases like this after this.
why do not these ppl bring these shameless boy friends and husbands' faces to papers for this shameless act.

    Siripala Friday, 05 November 2010 12:50 PM

We will be able to see most of the famous teledrama actresses among this 83. So I don't see a point in publishing them on newspapers as we see them everyday on tv.

    Siripala Friday, 05 November 2010 12:51 PM
