Can't they relocate it at Hambantota and make it the worlds biggest parliament? I don't see a need for it to be in Colombo nor any useful decisions happen inside it, except it hampers the lives of common people where ever the parliament is having sessions.

ALEX PAMINTUAN Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:09 AM

WHY DON'T YOU BUILD SOME HOSPITALS AND SCHOOLS WITH THAT MONEY?

    ajith Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:12 AM

This is a colossal waste of money.
instead, improve roads and bridges in Srilanka.

    ajith Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:18 AM

Who is the Minister in charge of this project.
He is eying for some ulterior motive.
This project is not befitting the common mass.
    The President should interfere immediately.
Where are the loud mouths of JVP

    Concerned Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:31 AM

Why not close the present one and take it to Hambantota. At least we will be able to ply on Colombo roads without any hazzle from their security vehicles.

    lankaputha Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:38 AM

Yes I do, at least the Galary should be expanded, so the idiots in this country can go and see who they have elected.
And specially another section should be added to the parliament to keep the mad dogs away from the meetings.
Finally another section to bring the public who are forced to listen to all bad words during debates should be isolated from the session so we can protect the public from roudies.

Ane Anichchang Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:41 AM

I understand that according to Mahinda Chinthana it is one of the plans to prune down the cabinet. When such a planning is being embarked upon, why a further expansion of parliamentary complex is required now? Also, Sri Lanka being a small island maintaining a large number of MPs, cabinet ministers, deputies and besides maintaining provincial councils and members, etc is utter waste of public funds.

    commonsense Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:51 AM

I believe it has something to do with horoscope!!... anyways we can expect the jumbo government to become double jumbo now as we will have more space in the complex... lets be optimistic and see it as job opportunities for the politicians!.. just if you are looking for a career change enroll right now... no better paying job in this country which doesnt expect you to deliver results..!!

    backtreetboy Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:52 AM

yes it should relatively comparing the waist size of the ministers...maybe they could continue the abandoned presidential palace project by CBK.

    Hasiya Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:53 AM

Improve facilities of Universities???? U kidding?

    nihal Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:54 AM

After about 02 decades MPs have been grown up in size so the present space is not sfficiant for them to go around

    jaded Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:06 AM

    i think not.
i think what we really need in the parliament are smart people who give a damn about the country, irrespective of race.
What we DON'T need are idiots who waste parliamentary time on deciding whether they need a bigger place in which to be idiots.

    bash Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:09 AM

    What for ???

    dil Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:18 AM

meelan then lets have one more flyover, like lets complete the one in Panadura for which the foundation stone was laid with this money! A greed!

    Dheen Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:22 AM

Yeah! obviously when you wipe out the opposition you need more seats for the government representatives and it is better if you can accommodate the "Chinthana Think Tank" and all the cronies also in the parliamentary complex and name it "One Family ". All the best and good luck.

    Gen Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:28 AM

Its not a Chinas gift, ist a GIFT FROM Japan..

    Hasiya Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:07 AM

i think its better if they can have the parliament discussions at the parliament grounds itself

    Cynic Thursday, 04 November 2010 05:36 AM

    The gravy train moves on.

    Jazzy Thursday, 04 November 2010 06:16 AM

    Dee Thursday, 04 November 2010 06:22 AM

better build a airport close to it, or use sea planes. tax Paying citizens can do without goons in unmarked vehicles whizzing past.

Just Another Citizen Thursday, 04 November 2010 06:30 AM

How about expanding some roads in Colombo? There is enough money being wasted already on Parliament.

    Dee Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:33 AM

get off that mentality. its ruining the whole world.

    Bonggo Thursday, 04 November 2010 07:59 AM

Reasons for the expansion are not given. Public has a right to know !!!

Blff Bluff Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:10 AM

Taking it to Hambantota would be ideal. At least defenders will not go into the Diwanna and the fishes there will have a sigh of relief!

    Wasantha Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:47 AM

DEFINITELY, TO CONSTRUCT A TUNNEL FROM TEMPLE TREES TO PARLIMENT CONSIDERING THE SECURITY OF MAHARAJA.

    sw Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:50 AM

Hope there is no intention to increase the number of MPs and Ministers.

Sadarana kota Thursday, 04 November 2010 08:55 AM

Current parliment complex got enough space and we can run a huge stage show in the complex utilizing the space...I think MR wants a mini VEGAS in the new complex to play CASINO games with his fellow members, He always think different to show some difference,.

    suwantha Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:20 AM

dont eat bread .sacrifice that money this unique work .becourse it is more important than eating peaple.we have been rated as educated nation.but what to elect the worlds foolish group.

Nina Kamal Thursday, 04 November 2010 09:39 AM

YES, yes, we do need an expansion, taking into consideration that all family members will sit in one wing, without being mingled with caste, race and other vermins who occupy the parliament and mostly essentially, do not forget to construct a huge car park arena for the cars that bring these fat idiots to the parliament. oh SL where are we heading! God Save US and we need it NOW!

    AFF Thursday, 04 November 2010 11:42 AM

I couldn't have said it better. Thanks.

    Rafiq Wednesday, 03 November 2010 05:02 PM

More Muslims are needed in Parliament. The Government must give more representation to the Muslim community.

Calistus Jayatilleke Wednesday, 03 November 2010 05:17 PM

To enshrine Five Star Democracy, Sri Lanka style !

    weerasinghe Wednesday, 03 November 2010 05:21 PM

Existing parliament complex is largely enough for the legislature.what we badly need is the projects that help poors to find livelihoods.Governent have to inject funds into the projects that directly help farmers, stuents , labours etc.
    weerasinghe

    bernard Wednesday, 03 November 2010 05:31 PM

For what? Are they expecting more MPs and Cabinet Ministers? Why not use that money to provide houses for people living in huts, dig wells for those who don't have drinking water nearby, buy desks and chairs for some schools in villages, buy badly needed hospital equipments?

    Neomal Wednesday, 03 November 2010 05:53 PM

    Den ithin Rata Hadamu?

Rs.750 million could have done a lot of things which would have benefited the public. The present parliament is big and good enough.

    Capsule Wednesday, 03 November 2010 05:55 PM

Is it because ministers require more space to comfortably fight...

    Hemals Wednesday, 03 November 2010 06:04 PM

R U KIDDING ME? GIVE 1 MILLION EACH TO 750 PEOPLE IF U HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO.

Smart Aleck Wednesday, 03 November 2010 11:14 PM

Could we also construct an Asylum and a Prison nearby?

Jagath Gunawardene Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:22 AM

This Rs. 750 Million can be used to expand land usable for cultivation and people may have at least one proper meal a day in this country. Expanding parliamentary complex is a way to insult China who gifted this complex.

PRAVEEN KUMARAWADU Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:23 AM

Yes This is very Welcome indeed! We need to put some more donkeys in! Keep it up.

    dhana Thursday, 04 November 2010 12:45 AM

Percy Mandawala Thursday, 04 November 2010 02:00 AM

This is not a priority. They can easily allocate these funds to upgrade or improve the facilities of the universities which will be a solution to the issues raised for the current student uprising.

    Sammy Thursday, 04 November 2010 02:53 AM

To accommodate more of the already overflowing cabinet of ministers.

    sinnan Thursday, 04 November 2010 03:09 AM

why do they need another building in Sri Jayawardanapura,As they were planning to make Hambantota the capital of Sri Lanka

    sltk2004 Thursday, 04 November 2010 03:37 AM

This about building construction, not about increasing number of MPs

    Prasanna Thursday, 04 November 2010 03:40 AM

Yep this is the way to go. Solve problems one by one while giving most priority to the burning issues..........

    meelan Thursday, 04 November 2010 04:02 AM

That is a small amount, guys. This is almost what we spent for Dehiwala overhead bridge, i suppose.
