The committee appointed by President Mahinda Rajapakse to inquire into the Nawalapitiya incidents will meet tomorrow to discuss the issues which led to the violence and will thereafter brief the President, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha told Daily Mirror online.

Premajayantha said that a comprehensive report into the inquiry will be handed over to President Rajapakse soon afterwhich Daily Mirror online learns that disciplinary action is likely to be taken against the candidates who were involved in creating violence which led to a re-poll in Nawalapitiya.

Meanwhile when questioned if the President would hand over portfolios to the Kandyan candidates once the inquiries were over, Premajantha said ‘yes’ without commenting further.

The candidates from the Kandy districts who have been left out from receiving portfolios are Keheliya Rambukwella, S.B. Dissanyaka and Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

Daily Mirror online learns that President Rajapakse has been angered over the Nawalapitiya violence which led to a re-poll and wants to identify who were behind the incidents.

President Rajapakse has also expressed disappointment at the internal rift among the UPFA candidates who contested from the Kandy District saying it had brought disrepute to his party. He had also said the fighting had been a disgrace. (Daily Mirror online)

This would be be an acid test to President Rajapakse. If he wishes to carve his name as a statesman he must act impartially in this matter.

Nothing will happen. Everyone will get portfolios

What a big show is being made of what everyone knows is an eyewash. None of the UPFA candidates who were elected will be found guilty. It will be put down as an erroneous report, or maybe the UNP will be blamed as Mahinda Aluthgamage stated on the day prior to the re-poll. A grand eyewash indeed..

This is all drama. Nothing will happen to them. Just wait and see, all three will get ministerial plums. Remember what happened to Mervin Silva!

President must give only one portfolio to the winner (Mahindananda) and discard the rest whom cannot win even having a re-poll.

Hope the Hon. President will take the right decision on this issue.

If some person has disrupted polling at Nawalapitiya leading to a repoll, why is the Police not taking action against those who broke the law? The party can have its own inquiry but whatever happened to the law of the land?

    Monday, 26 April 2010 03:48 PM

Ignoring the local man who obtained the highest votes and promoting the crossovers will set a bad example. If president wants to really set an example - shouldn’t give any portfolios to all three

Disciplne is not found in both PA and UNP. This is high time for His excellency to get rid of indiciplined chracters and bring in discipline into the party. Now it's not a threat even if those culprits wants to leave the PA. PA has sufficient number of MPs to balance the power.
Can anyone talk about indicipline of Basil or Gotabhaya. Even being the brothers of HE they are very much disciplined compared to every one else in the PA. Hon Maithreepal Hearth is another example.

Totally agree with you. We wish good luck to the president if he is going to bring good governance and discipline to the leaders of our nation.

The only candidate worthy of the ministerial portfolio is Dr Sarath Amunugama - he is educated & honest. Didnt the president say we need educated & honest persons in parliament?

    Tuesday, 27 April 2010 11:20 AM

    Outcome is Zero !.
