Yet another form of media censorship. Who decides what to block? The government of course. Next step is to block great news sites (like DM) during the next elections when anything critical of the government is written. Wake up people of Sri Lanka!

    lionheart Thursday, 11 November 2010 01:36 AM

    AFF Thursday, 11 November 2010 08:20 AM

Maybe also this someone's boss plans to bring down sex-slaves from abroad to SL and is paving the way for a blooming business. Block websites and create a demand for their product.

    AFF Thursday, 11 November 2010 08:22 AM

    Luke Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:41 AM

Porn sites blocked but killing in the name of Allah condoned. Another logic defying ideal.

sutharsan jeganathan Sunday, 14 November 2010 08:53 AM

The feasible way to reduce the harm of pornography, might be identifying the hazards and educate the people about how porn affect their life. It is something similar to smoking and alcohol addiction. There are plenty of porn addiction treatment centres established in western countries and recently the researchers have decided that porn is not a good educator of adult sex education. But almost all of the porn sites are hosted from Western countries and people who strictly follow western cultures have the great vulnerability of porn addiction.

    danu Sunday, 28 November 2010 08:27 AM

there are millions of websites containing porn and only 847 sites have been blocked. I don't think there is any use by doing so because there are software's that allow to open blocked websites and porn still contains on websites that are not blocked. But its a great try :D

    MK Wednesday, 10 November 2010 11:50 AM

exactly. why cant someone educate the authorities how proxies work!??? they are making themselves a laughing

    sltk2004 Wednesday, 10 November 2010 09:38 AM

Can't these people at least understand now that this is not a feasible task? They have 'successfully' blocked 847 sites when there are millions still active

    Milson Wednesday, 10 November 2010 09:39 AM

Can you please name those websites, there are plenty of loop holes on the net to view these types of sites.

    Sumal Wednesday, 10 November 2010 09:44 AM

We are at war which cannot be won. Why we have to waste our time and energy?

    malkanthi Wednesday, 10 November 2010 10:24 AM

You cannot move par with the technology.

    demon Wednesday, 10 November 2010 10:28 AM

Even if they block, there are 100 of other ways to enter in to those websites...

    Fair n Square Wednesday, 10 November 2010 10:41 AM

May be they can stop certain sites BUT not all, yet its worth the trouble to get kids away from the sharks

    Sajith Wednesday, 10 November 2010 10:42 AM

Millions of porn sites are available on the internet. Banning 847 sites will not make a difference.

    tamilan Wednesday, 10 November 2010 10:57 AM

what ever it is good to be band...

    stuxnet Wednesday, 10 November 2010 11:03 AM

    Loki Wednesday, 10 November 2010 11:09 AM

If there is a will ,there will always be a way.

    TMA Wednesday, 10 November 2010 11:12 AM

Seems we're close to banning the internet

    vimal Wednesday, 10 November 2010 09:06 AM

I dont think the government will be able to block all the porn sites in the world it'll atleast take 100 years to do this. Plus as figures indicate I bet u get more new sites in a day compared to the number that they block after 6months of investigation!

    Anushka Wednesday, 10 November 2010 11:50 AM

There are millions of such websites and hundreds more go online each month, making this technically impractical. The only way something like this would be even remotely possible is through a massive project like the "great firewall of China", which requires massive resources and has censorship and human rights issues. I don't think the officials suggesting these blockings have any idea of internet technology.

    Raj Wednesday, 10 November 2010 12:13 PM

Bloking pages is nonsons ..just go to Google just search PAGES you will get withing 0.08 seconds 189,000,000 Pages and day by day comes new pages to the net ..and they can´t stop all this pages then they will l blocke Internet access ..one day

    Raj Wednesday, 10 November 2010 12:19 PM

Blocking 847 pages what is this nothing compare to only Google has right now 189,000,000 pages ..and everyday comes more new pages.

    Chami Wednesday, 10 November 2010 12:36 PM

Millions of porn sites are hosted around the world. i dont think sl gov can blocked all these sites.

Peter North Wednesday, 10 November 2010 01:09 PM

    The Porn Again Criticisms madness

    wellwisher Wednesday, 10 November 2010 01:14 PM

    Ban the net easy solution!!!!

    Cobra Wednesday, 10 November 2010 01:14 PM

This is a war the authorities will never win. Unfortunate but it is the truth!

    Hassan Wednesday, 10 November 2010 01:36 PM

This is good. We must follow the example of countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan which have banned porn sites. Because pornographic material is unislamic.

    Jana Wednesday, 10 November 2010 01:43 PM

In the Middle East Coountries Most of Porn sites are blocked, if so why can't SL block it .......... It can be done and It should be done immediatly.......

    Rajitha Wednesday, 10 November 2010 02:14 PM

this government is absurd! what's wrong with porn?
these people must be the brothers and sisters of Queen Victoria.

    weha Wednesday, 10 November 2010 02:57 PM
