The Children’s Court in Colombo today ordered the Police Women and Child’s bureau to seek the assistance of mobile phone companies on how porn sites accessed via mobile phones can be restricted or blocked.
Sources at the Women and Child’s bureau told Daily Mirror online that the order was based on a complaint lodged by a parent that his child was able to access porn sites via the mobile phone including sites banned by the government on the internet in Sri Lanka.
The Court was informed by the Police Women and Child’s bureau that at least 40 porn sites could be accessed via mobile phones and access to these sites needs to be restricted. The Police Women and Child’s bureau had earlier written to the Telecom Regulatory Commission (TRC) seeking a ban on access to porn web sites via the mobile phone but the TRC needed an order from the government or Court.
As a result the Police Women and Child’s bureau took up the issue with the Chilren’s Court and the Court is likely to issue an order banning access to the sites based on the recommendations of mobile companies once a solution is reached. (Daily Mirror online)

If we are trying to become a more moral and ethical country, it is too late for that.

Morality cannot be forced, nor can you legislate it.

What is "moral" and "ethical"? No such things exist in an economic system driven by greed.

It is never 'too late.' Let us, at least, try to protect the next generation.

The state is quite right, in this instance, to take appropriate measures to protect a very vulnerable segment of its population, namely, CHILDREN! This is essential, for the greater good of both the country and its people.

But, we may be able use legislation to create an environment which encourages a more moral and ethical society. Banning public smoking, is a good recent example.

Who are these parents?
Why do they give children expensive smartphones that can access internet?
Tell them to give just a simple mobile phone to their children.
These people think the other people are stupid.

About time. And I guess however much a mobile phone is useful to school kids( To contact home, driver, elders etc. in an emmergency), they brought this ban upon themselves by abusing it's use.

That is exactly why it becomes necessary for governments to intervene to control and guide the business environment. Consider what is happening now even in the USA where legislative efforts are being made to bring Wall Street under closer surveillance and control.
