Can anyone tell that you are having depression, not even yourself, until it shows up. So same with the Met Dept.

    Bernard Sunday, 21 November 2010 01:55 PM

This is not new to the whole country this will be worse in the coming days.

I think even the Gods are fed up all the tamashas that are taking place here, wasting public money!

    Cobra Sunday, 21 November 2010 11:52 AM

    You mean: No further depression?

    siri Sunday, 21 November 2010 11:30 AM

Naraka - quite true. Waeather forecasts can now be given mainly because of sat photos reasonable accurately for upto 2/3 days in advance. It understandably diminishes beyond that. For eg. UK weather forecasts have about 85% probability/accuracy.

MY GEOGRAPHY TEACHER TAUGHT US THAT THE SOUTH WESTERN REGION OF SRI LANKA WAS KNOWN AS THE "WET ZONE" DUE TO THE SOUTH WEST MONSOON RAINS AND THE AFTERNOON THUNDER SHOWERS EXPERIENCED IN THE REGION BEING ON THE WINDWARD SIDE OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN RANGE - QUITE APART FROM THE PREDICTIONS OF THE DEPT. OF METROLOGY & ITS FORECAST OF CLIMATIC DEPRESSIONS.

So are we under the El Nino cycle now?

    N Hesara Sunday, 21 November 2010 10:15 AM

@Naraka, he he... it's true indeed. The funniest thing is even in so called high tech cities like London , the weather prdictions will never get correct.Despite getting data from no of satellites and usage of sophisticated NWP(Numerical weather prediction) tools. I think SL met department is doing a fabuloius job with limited resources..

    CJ Sunday, 21 November 2010 10:10 AM

True, Government should close it down. More reliable forecasts can be obtained from Internet without cost.

next year, the La Nino cycle will be in effect and a long patch of drought is expected. Will see the efficiency of the newly installed thermal generators.

    Yehiya-Doha Sunday, 21 November 2010 09:14 AM

Entire nation is under dipression. why worried about weather.

Naraka Kolla Sunday, 21 November 2010 09:02 AM

Point is, our big Meteorology department can NEVER give an indication in advance. Once it hits, they are able to give fabulous explanations. God bless all the air planes coming to SL based on these guys forecasts!!
