The State security and vehicles given to former Deputy Minister Mervyn Silva will be reduced to that of an MP as he was removed from his post from the Highways Ministry by President Mahinda Rajapakse, a top defence ministry official said.
Director General of the Media Center of National Security (MCNS) Lakshman Hulugalla told Daily Mirror online that Silva’s security will be reduced to that of a MP as he no longer held the Deputy Minister post.
“His security will be reduced to that of a normal MP,” Hulugalla said while sources within the Defence Ministry confirmed that his official vehicles would also be reduced.
Meanwhile speaking to his supporters in Kelaniya this afternoon Silva said that some “dogs” are pushing for his security to be withdrawn and added that if such action is taken then he will use his private security.
Meanwhile it has been reported that Silva has also been removed as the Chief Organiser of the SLFP in the Kelaniya electorate.
The office used by former Deputy Highways Minister Mervyn Silva has also been padlocked and police deployed around it. The police have also been told not to allow anyone enter the premises.
Silva landed himself in hot water after tying a Samurdhi officer to a tree. President Mahinda Rajapakse stripped him of his Deputy Ministerial post on Tuesday and his SLFP party membership was also suspended.
Meanwhile the government has said that the charges leveled against the former Highways Deputy Minister would be probed by a three member disciplinary committee headed by the Chairman of the SLFP Disciplinary panel. (Daily Mirror online)
