Many think positively about sri lanka...IT;s good but real situation in sri lanka is really bad. These people are going with life risking journey for a safer and better life. We do not have it in sri lanka. Some will argue that they are living with a great standard...but not many...

Why they are not going to Tamilnadu. Their mother land. Not too far. Just few hours enough.

is this the true mentality of sri lankans towards tamil people ?
Thursday, 27 May 2010 10:17 AM
this is absolute nonsense.. are you trying to say that tamils are not SL origins..? Don't you know the hard working of tamils..? you seem to not be knowing anything..
Thursday, 27 May 2010 09:43 AM
they are the most popular people for risk their lives for better economic condition with less hard work. Don't forget that they have a proven history of sailing to south Africa, West Indies, South America, Lanka from India during the colonial era and way before that as slaves for better economic conditions.
Now Tamils trend is to sail to western countries, so they dare not take any kind of risk for easy and better economic condition.

If Sri Lanka has all the ills in the world, why don't they try Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Eritrea - do not need skills, education or the lingo - only ask for experience in fighting, fraud and embezzlement. According to UN, there are few small Tamil enclaves in Ethiopia already !

All countries - far away from Sri Lanka - must open their doors to these so-called refugees from Sri Lanka so that they can make those countres their new home. These peple are very good - and we can send you more of them at no charge.

may be you are right. but how can they risk their lives ?
i think human lives are more valuable than anything.

the way to eliminate poverty in Sri Lanka...

Whatever reasons these people site for their selfish decision to set off on such a risky illegal venture this act should not be condoned. They should be jailed for 5 years without parole and their civic rights also should be deprived for 10 years to them for bringing such shame on Sri Lanka. I am so thoroghly disappointed

KAVITHA, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU--WAR IS OVER BUT THERE REAL PROBLEM NOT SOLVED
Thursday, 27 May 2010 06:41 AM
What is their excuse for fleeing now ? Is'nt this proof that
these bogus Asylum and Refugees are a big business and an easy ticket for the illegals to enter countries where otherwise they have no chance. What they do not realize is that without an education, skill or English they will end up doing menial jobs remaining as 3rd class foreigners. Fools.

It is not all about safety, but money and better living stand.
Thursday, 27 May 2010 06:25 AM
Tamils are not safe in Sri Lanka and that's why they are taking this high risk and leaving to other countries seeking refugee.. war may have been over but not the problem faced by tamils..
Thursday, 27 May 2010 06:12 AM
its economy,stupid
Thursday, 27 May 2010 05:54 AM
These fraudsters when they reach Australian shores will eventually come with the standard explanation that they fled from persecutions and genocide obtaining in Sri Lanka! And, Australian authorities, as usual, will buy the story and grant them refugee status.
How on earth could people smuggling rackets be held in check in these circumstances?
Thursday, 27 May 2010 05:44 AM
I agree with Hussain....they should be helping their kith and kin to develop the north and east where they were partly responsible for distroying for 30 years.
Thursday, 27 May 2010 05:42 AM
These "refugees" should send back to where they were living so they can perform their utmost duty to their native country.
Thursday, 27 May 2010 05:28 AM
Sri Lanka is so safe and free now that the Tamils (risking their lives) are going on sailing trips.
