A man arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a Sri Lankan woman at a pig farm in Limassol was yesterday remanded for eight days by the town’s district court.

The 35-year-old suspect – also from Sri Lanka – denies murdering the 37-year-old woman, who was found in a wastewater lake tied to a cement block, in the farm where she worked in Limassol village Monagrouli.

According to the investigator in the case, the victim had loaned the suspect 1,000 euros in 2010 and after receiving just 750 euros back and she was constantly demanding the remainder.

He said that on the last day the victim was seen alive on March 3 – 12 days before her body was found -- the pair had had another argument about the money.

In a telephone conversation with the victim’s brother in Sri Lanka, police were told that the only person she had personal differences with was the 35-year-old suspect, the investigator claimed.

However, investigations continue as the murder weapon has not yet been found.

Cyprus CID is very good, since I have worked there as interpreter, I know how they work but sadly their Prison system is too lenient to animals like this.
