President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in a message to the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, said that Sri Lanka backs the Russian Federation in its continued battle to defeat terrorism in all its forms.

In the message sent to express sorrow over the suicide attacks in Russia yesterday which killed several people, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka sees the attack as a horrible reminder of the continuing terrorist violence that affects the world today.

"As a country that has suffered enormously under terrorism for nearly three decades, Sri Lanka is well aware of its harsh realities, especially how it threatens the progress of a nation and peace and tranquility among people. We also recall with gratitude the constant and significant assistance that the Russian Federation extended to Sri Lanka to achieve success in our battle against separatist terrorism,” President Rajapaksa added.
