Resettlement Minister Milroy Fernando has promised Sinhalese families temporarily taking shelter at the Jaffna Railway station that they will soon receive land.

Fernando stated that these families will be given back the land which belonged to them within the Jaffna Peninsula upon the completion of the legal proceedings regarding the government lands in these areas.

All races living together peacefully is always welcome. But that must happen by such people willingly without any force by the Government which is run by majority community.

But it is not reasonable to settle sinhala families even before the those who are in IDP camps are settled. this shows is the authorities want, all those families could have been settles long before.

Sinhalese are entitled to live anywhere as much as Tamils and Muslims. In this case not only restoration of their lost land but should be compensated for lost livelihoods for quarter of a century.

Tamils are not against sinhalese individually on their own wish settling in Jaffna. But they are against state sponsored settlements. Remember a miniority that has been subject to many riots since 1958 need a safe homeland to run if they are attacked. The government and sinhala people never understand this and are also never able to guarantee the safety of tamils. even recently there were problems in yatiyanthota. So, Sinhala people please understand this. The governemnt is sinhalese and majority is sinhalese, so even if tamils live in Matara still the sinhalese have lot of protection because they are mejority and government, President are sinhalese. We are not racist but trying to explain the feelings of a minority

I thought Sri Lankas can live anywhere of their choice in Sri Lanka. Moors in Beruwela or
Tamils in Wellawatte I have no problem. but Singhalese or Moors NOT in Jaffna Certainly there is a Problem.Authorities must look into it.

Malkanthi, please wait. Government need to process case by case to identify terroristts who got trapped in the camps before resettling them> How can our Sinhala people stay till then? They need to settledown first and restart their business. SInhalese came to Sri Lanka first and thus first come first serve basis, Heard about FILO (first in last out) system!

If it is resettlement it is not matter to what race or ethnicity they are belongs to, all have rights to settle in there own land. But it should not be a settlement.

A good move. In a sovereign country, all races of citizens should be able to live amicably in any part of the country. There should be no labels for "historical homeland myth" and no reserve of lands exclusively for one particular race.

Sinhalese and Muslims were chased from North and East, Tamils were requested to leave due to escalation of war. Whether Sinhalese, Muslim or Tamil we all are Sri Lankans, so resettle all genuine Sri Lankans soon in North and East. Don't give any allowance for cheats. Trust they all will enjoy a "Subha Anagathayak" !

What about private land occupied by army in the names of high security zones? No compensations no lands. But land for people who just claim they lived in Jaffna without any evidence. Back to same tactics of issuing govt land to singhalese in north east which was the root cause for terrorism in this country. No lessons learned..
