The JVP today vowed to prevent a two-thirds majority in Parliament for the government to bring about constitutional changes in an "ad hoc manner" at this time.  The party said that it would be done with the help of other parties in the opposition.

Parliamentary group leader of the JVP-led Democratic National Alliance Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a news conference today that the opposition would try to muster the support of certain sections of the government for this purpose. (KB)

Typical JVPer. It shows in the name itself.

    Monday, 14 June 2010 05:31 AM

DNA will definitely form a government soon with the help of the disgruntled members of both major parties.

    Monday, 14 June 2010 05:14 AM

JVP always over estimates their real strenght.

    Monday, 14 June 2010 04:54 AM

well we all know that there are more talented people in srilanka than the existing ones in parliament....a law should be passed saying that there can be only 2 terms for any minister or parliamentarian...then there will be opportunities for much more talented people to develop this country..... but will this happen?????

    Monday, 14 June 2010 04:28 AM

What back bone. These guys don't have any shame or ethics. They are grabbing at straws trying to resurrect themselves.

    Monday, 14 June 2010 04:25 AM

Absolutely, I think you are in the dark

    Monday, 14 June 2010 03:51 AM

JVP go and fly a kite !! Your time is gone. See what happened at the Jaffna University yesterday. You were all rejected ISLANDWISE !!!!

    Monday, 14 June 2010 03:22 AM

    in which direction?

    Monday, 14 June 2010 03:22 AM

Bring the intellectuals to the fray and study the changes without just opposing everything for the sake of opposing if what the government is doing is good, support it otherwise reject it, I am with you

    Monday, 14 June 2010 02:59 AM

If people have no interest and are doing nothing against government moves, how can a few opposition members stop this? First you all must be united and form a strong opposition alliance. If not the country will be ruined.

    Monday, 14 June 2010 01:46 AM

Prior to the Presidential election both President Mahinda Rajapakse and Gen. Fonseka said, The Executive Presidential form will be abolished. Now how come GOSL wants to amend it for the President to contest as many times as he desires. JVP is right in their oppostion to this, and all right minded MPs must oppose in Parliament to preserve democracy and fundamental free rights.

    Monday, 14 June 2010 01:01 AM

JVP, as usual, overestimating their capacity! When are they going to be realistic?

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 07:38 AM

All opposition parties must stand together to stop the govt from doing what they want to do. MR can run his house the way he wants not the country.
Good luck AKD. You are capable.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 06:35 PM

Mr.Atapattu, YES we need a constitutional change, but definitly not to extend the term of the sitting President.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 05:53 PM

Kumara, can you please tell us what this clear vision is? If constitutional amendments are made in an ad hoc manner, how can there be a clear vision or a plan?

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 01:13 PM

First see whether its good or bad............

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 11:23 AM

Do you know what is happening??????????????????

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 11:11 AM

2/3rd is 100% sure without Jeppo's help. If they help too, then there will be a problem.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 10:50 AM

At the moment we need a constitutional change, so the opposition would try to give their suggestions without been against anything .

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 10:36 AM

We are proud of you guys at least we have a few with back bones. Mr,Ranil please follow them otherwise there's no way out for you

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 10:19 AM

This is what we need an island wide protest , revolution to oppose the rule. Go on Jeppo, go for a do and die mission.....

    J V P Jayawewaaaaa

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 09:29 AM

Opposition should get together to block this in the interest of the country.
People who suport this should know where we are heading for. By the time they realise it will be too late.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 09:02 AM

Wonder who are the other parties who will join with JVP.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 08:09 AM

All party's should support Raja he has a clear vision

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 08:02 AM
