The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), a party of the ruling coalition, along with 26 other organizations established a shadow authority in parallel to the National Tobacco Authority for Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) to curb the drug and alcohol menace in the country.
JHU leader Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said that they took this decision because the NATA failed in this respect. He said that his party plans to make Sri Lanka free from drugs and alcohol by 2015 as envisaged in Mahinda Chintana policy document.
