International Election Observers who are currently in the country said today at a press briefing held in Colombo that  that they would make an effort to pay attention to vulnerable polling stations and counting centers during the upcoming Presidential Elections.

They said that they would be making an effort to visit as many polling stations as possible, adding that the situation in the North would be the same, as  they may not be able to visit each and every polling station in the province. (YP)

we do not belive anybody,we know it is not fair election.you do not waste your time.

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 09:34 AM

What vulnerable booths? Every booth that has a Govt. minister close by is a "vulnerable booth".

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 09:32 AM

How many times have these International Monitors come here. had a good time and gone? There have been so many election violations in earlier polls, but all they do is say everything is fine, no problems whatsoever. That I think is even worse than not having any International monitors. After all, they are " bought" (brought) here at govt. expense and they know what they have to say. What a waste of money!!

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 07:59 AM

I will not be surprised that the International polls observers will be chased out by MRs goons led by Mervyn Mahindananda Lokuge Duminda Silva and Sumathipala the pious Buddhist who have carved out areas in Sri lanka to terrorise he voters and force them to vote for MR.!!!! This will be the most violent election that these observers will monitor. MR does not care a hoot for world opinion as long as he is elected King for another 6 years.MRs advisers are Amanijaad and the Head of the military Junta who are masters of rigging elections!!!!

If election is not carried out properly, cancel election
results, like Sudan and Afghanistan, make fresh
    elections

    Saturday, 23 January 2010 12:27 AM

Election monitors? From countries like China, Burma, Cuba - where no election is held held for 'donkeys years'!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 07:45 PM

Election monitors ... from Burma and Bangladesh?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 04:40 PM

I hope that they have video cameras.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 04:01 PM

Yes keep a close eye on army goons, they have the training and wepons.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:58 PM

The heading reads: Close eye on vulnerable booths
but in Srilanka, the government's attitude is:
    Closed eye on vulnerable booths

    Friday, 22 January 2010 03:46 PM

Please don't close your eyes but keep a close eye!! Good luck and let's strengthen democracy and let it live long. Long live democracy!!

    Friday, 22 January 2010 10:22 AM

yes dear monitors do a good job dont do any wong thin who ever told you we have to save our motherland please help us do the job thank you and GOD bless you all

    Friday, 22 January 2010 10:16 AM

Cannot think any good will come out of these Monitors because the situation is so vulnerable that even the more powerful Elections Commissioner appears to have given up in the face of lawlessness.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 10:09 AM

I hope they will not be bribed with $.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 08:40 AM

Make sure you guys that the polling is done freely and fairly. and then we are in for a great change

    Friday, 22 January 2010 10:03 AM

Somebody needs to watch these "International Monitors"
Remember how similar monitors watched the infamous CFA being violated by LTTE?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:43 AM

Monitors please don't accept any guided tour from Government ministers. Take care don't even attend any dinner /drink party. we all believe your participation in order to take free election. Jeyawewa.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:42 AM

International moniotors please ensure this election is free and fair. I wish all sri lankans all the best please vote for the right leader. This country needs honest leader who delivers.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:42 AM

dont just give your report on paper, please try to take stern action even tell election commisioner to anull election where rigging take place.expect your impartial work, thanks.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:38 AM

And what are you going to do if it is not fair and free? Laws are openly flouted for everybody to see, Govt TV is only for the president, posters are all over, and the police are spectators. A former CJ has said that the election comm, police chief, CJ are all illegitimate. What more do you want to observe? Lalith Wije

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:37 AM

Watching is the only thing that they could do... What's the use of monitoring if they cannot take any corrective action ?

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:33 AM

What we need u guys to do is more that watching to give the correct statement after the elections.Wether it was a free & fair election.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:29 AM

Transportation to the polling station may be a problem as the candidates are barred to give lift to the electors therefore the govt. and the joint opposition should pay for the pvt. and public bus train services for free travel on the day 7 am to 4 pm. In some places polling stations are two kilometres away and the people have to walk, during previous elections on the way their cards were snatched by gangs to impersonate or destroy later.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:21 AM

There is no vulnerable stations as far as the free poll is ensured MR's victory is strenghened miles by miles.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:03 AM

Start by watching the state media in the coming days.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:01 AM

International Election Monitors.... Beware of Our Political MONITORS !.

    Friday, 22 January 2010 09:00 AM

Polling stations with predominantly minority votes are more vulnerable including Colombo. Recall what happened in 2005.
