India has asked Sri Lanka to devolve power to the Tamil minority in that country in a bid for reconciliation among various communities at the end of the decades-long civil war, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

In a letter written to Karunanidhi June 10 that was released to the media today, Manmohan Singh said: 'I have also urged upon Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa the need for reconciliation among communities in Sri Lanka and for practical arrangements, including devolution of powers, to enable all minorities in Sri Lanka, and particularly the Tamil minority, to lead lives of dignity.'

Replying to Karunanidhi's letter dated June 5, Manmohan Singh adds that the issue of internally displaced people in Sri Lanka was raised with Rajapaksa.

'He (Rajapaksa) has assured me that the 47,000 Tamils who are still in camps will be resettled by the end of this year.’

The Sri Lankan President came on a three-day visit to India on June 8.

'We announced a joint initiative to construct 50,000 houses for the internally displaced persons in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. The government of India is separately also working on projects and programmes for resettled families to be in a position to earn their own livelihood,' Manmohan Singh said. (IANS)

Lets do this and give the minority a chance. And this will certainly avoid the future LTTE growth.

Mr. Singh, you have no right to ask about devolution of power, which is an absolute internal matter of Sri Lanka. Remember, SL is a unitary independent state.
Why don't you look into your Internal State Governmental issues and mind your own business, Sir?
Managing South Indian affairs is totally your ability and don't please them by prying into us which shows your inability of management.

    1. South India should be renamed Tamil ealam with Madras as its capitol. Nalini who assassinated Rajiv Ghandhi should be made president immediately.
    2. Kashmir should be made autonomous and Pakistan should be invited to appoint anybody they want as its president.
    3. Arunachal pradesh should also be declared an autonomous region and Indians should be made to go to Chinese embassy to seek visas to enter Arunachal.
    4. The naxalites should be invited to nominate all regions of India they want to be autonomous and give their own region as a solution to their social problem.

Nothing new, statement after statements, writing letters to one another. The ground reality is the same. Current Indian central govt has no interest in Tamils in SL or in Tamil Nadu!

So the Indian PM has said so to the TN Chief Minister - Karunanidhi will be happy. Sri Lanka will also be happy, because nothing, as such, was told to Sri Lanka. This is called diplomacy.
