Dummies taken into police custody

A lorry that transported dummies of loaves of bread and coconut made of cardboard, to be used at the JVP protest rally, was taken into police custody this evening at Peliyagoda, JVP MP Vijitha Herath said.

Mr. Herath said that three persons including the driver of the lorry were also taken in. “We do not understand why it is. We lodged a complaint against the police. Initially, they were reluctant to entertain our complaint. Some senior police officers avoided answering our telephone calls. Finally, we managed to do it,” he said.

The party held a rally using these dummies at Lipton Circus today as a mark of protest against the rising living costs.(KB)
