Sellasamy backs General Fonseka

Deputy Minister of Telecommunications S. Sellasamy extended support to Presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka during his manifesto launch in Colombo a short while ago. The Deputy Minister is also attending a press briefing with the General at the moment.

Meanwhile the joint opposition pledged that the Election Manifesto of joint opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka would be implemented regardless of which party came into power after a general election. “An Election manifesto is generally used to point out the faults of another regimen and thereafter it is forgotten. But his is not the case with the manifesto of the General. It has been arrived at and agreed upon by each of the parties present here today and regardless of which party comes into power it will be implemented,” JVP Parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said. 

General Fonseka in his ten point plan “Vishvasaneeya Venasak” (believable change) promises to restore democracy, eliminate corruption and help families by creating jobs, increasing incomes and lowering taxes and the cost of living.

Fonseka stated that he along with the joint opposition would enact the promises in the manifesto. “This manifesto was created with the consensus of all the parties present. I did not sign any agreements with these parties instead I joined them after having discussions with them and forming connections and bonds with the individuals. Thereby I will fulfill all the promises therein,” he said.

The General’s 10 point plan among others pledges to restore a process of national integration, restore health services and invigorate education, empower women, provide youth with jobs, safeguard the security of the nation and safeguard the security of the nation.
