Child kidnapper sent to Angoda

The Colombo Additional Magistrate today ordered the suspect who kidnapped two and half year old Senuthi Maapalagama, who went missing from the Kelaniya temple last month to be admitted to the Angoda Mental Hospital for observation by a consultant psychiatrist.

The suspect was taken into custody by the police after the child was found with the suspect in Marawila late last month.

The suspect, her daughter and the two granddaughters appeared before the Magistrate for the case today. The Kelaniya Police stated that the suspect S.P Gunasekera had kidnapped the child from the custody of its parents during a Bodhi Pooja held at the Kelaniya Temple to bless the child's ailing grandfather.

The magistrate has remanded the suspect till June 21 and has ordered the Police to file the report in court.

If she is criminally insane, she must be locked-up till her mental illness is cured - to keep others safe. If she is sane, she must go through a trial and face the music like any other ordinary criminal. Kidnapping, is a serious crime!
