Government should make efforts to bring this kind of thing to minimum. But these things happen in the United States also. If i want to do some harm to a person, there is no shield or some kind of sci fi electric field to block me from doing it. So don't blame the government for the disappearance of the child. But hold the government responsible if it doesn't act to minimize these things. Put aside your political blindness and understand situation INTELLIGENTLY...!

If what Kem says is true, I am really sorry. I will help them if they need any help. But the mother has to understand now, the God can't do a lot, it is us who need to help ourselves and each other. Hope the child will be found soon.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 10:44 AM

Yeah, you are correct. Rather than blaming government for each and every incident happen, better to be more vigilent at least when in crowded areas.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 10:42 AM

Government can take any action once something happened. Or else GOSL has to keep one police man to cover each child. Be practical.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 10:37 AM

Dr. Mevin has a chance to help these parents to find this little girl. this is in his area. do something mervin.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 10:23 AM

O Yes in true Sri Lankan style - Blame the govt. blame Mervyn Silva, et al., where were the child's parents for heaven's sake who took her to the temple in Kelaniya and in whose care the child was.?????

    Monday, 10 May 2010 10:16 AM

Why do you want the government to keep a policeman per child whenever they go out. Be realistic! Don't blame the government for each and everything. Thank god we dont have any volcanos in Sri Lanka. Otherwise each time there is an erruption, people like you will blame the government for that!

Parents were doing Puja's becuase their father was dying in hospital due to cancer.( He passed away yesterday midnight ). Double blow for the family as the little girl is abducted as well. Latest news is police found the abductor ( Flower vendor in the temple ) but the child is still missing. Police are still questioning the suspect. Child's cloths found inside her hand bag.

the government should implement the Saudi law the crime in srilanka would reduce a lot, in Saudi theft means your hand gets chopped if 1 hand is cut in sri lanka the others would get scared, no rape, no stealing it would be a safe place

Most of the comments are based on the heading of the story. Also I put the blame on the parents too. Until the girl go's missing where were they? I am sure they have paid less attention to the child charmed by the envioronment and until the girl was missing they did not notice. I have seen many possible incidents not only in Kelaniya in many public places. They let go of the child and busy with their own schedule, so the little child stops to look at some things which attracts them and the parents without noticing they move forward. Exactly just as you said Dheen and MaPer

You can say silly things but even in countries like the US, UK where there is so much security and cameras in place, still kids get abducted. In this particular case, the kid wasn't pulled away from the mother. Instead, when the mother was so deeply focussed on her blessings, she forgot her child. Among thousands of people, the perpetrator took his prey. It's easy, it is the parents who should take a better interest in their kids than Gods. Otherwise predators are everywhere, do you want the police to guard every school, shop and the household?

    Monday, 10 May 2010 07:27 AM

I quite agree with Dheen - parents bring children, then start jabbering with friends, unmindfull of what the child is doing. Is it really very necessary to carry a child along with them to the temple. If they bring small children can they concentrate on what they are doing (praying/meditating)?

    Monday, 10 May 2010 06:33 AM

Ask Mervin to help. This is unhuman and the public must help the police to find the child.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 06:30 AM

Its the Government's responsibility to create a safe enviroment to the nation!!!

    Monday, 10 May 2010 06:07 AM

Everyone is paying lip service to LAW AND ORDER situation in the country and nothing has been done on the ground and things are turning from bad to worse. This problem cannot be solved by law and police only. It needs the untiring and coordinated efforts of all religious groups, schools and general public under a well planned programme.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 06:06 AM

this shows how criminal minded people are today, this is because of the lack of religious education given to children from parents, elders and schools.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 09:12 PM

This is a very common event in SL. Nothing new. This will continue.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 05:35 AM

As long as you say its going to happen, it will happen. Be optimistic at least a bit... I have more faith in this nation looking back at where we have come. A lot of improvements needs to be made, but its always good to put aside political blindfolds and at least acknowledge the good that is happening.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 05:28 AM

What has Mervin got to say about this? A heinous act done in his own backyard! Can Mervin help to trace this child?

    Monday, 10 May 2010 05:15 AM

It could be even the parents carelessness. Many a times I have witnessed some parents least bothered about their children when they start gossiping at events not knowing where the child is and even when walking on a highway they allow the child to walk on the road exposing them to a terrible risk. In the first place the parents have to be disciplined and cautious when going about with small children.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 05:08 AM

Why don't our Police checks those infants and children carried by beggars for begging.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 05:07 AM

I agree with Sammy. They should have been more careful about the child knowing what the country they live in is like. Now go and ask help from Dr Mervin Silva. He is very good hearted and he will try his best to find the kid.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 05:03 AM

Do you mean the government should look after each child?

    Monday, 10 May 2010 04:52 AM

When there is a young child around, the parents should have been more vigilant.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 04:22 AM

Places of worship are safe, only if the demonic spirit filled people are not present!!

    Monday, 10 May 2010 04:00 AM

I am sure Dr. Mervyn Silva must be getting real mad that this has happened in his backyard.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 03:51 AM

    Whats the government doing???

    Monday, 10 May 2010 03:43 AM

Law and Order should be enforced tightly.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 03:18 AM

I WONDER WHY THESE THINGS HAPPEN IN KELANIYA WHEN THE 'PEOPLE'S REPRESENTATIVE' THERE CLAIMS TO HAVE ERADICATED ALL ILLEGAL THINGS IN THE SACRED CITY.

    Monday, 10 May 2010 02:27 AM

    Police & Rulers,
Pl take immidiate strict steps to eradicate criminal menance like abductions, housebrakings, rape, thefts, road accidents, ransoms ect, to live peacefully and to show the world that law & order prevails in our courty in the journey to the "ASIYAWE ASCHARYAYA" (we should have taken these measures long time ago)
    Bala

    Monday, 10 May 2010 02:10 AM

It is not even safe to go to a place of worship.

    Sunday, 09 May 2010 10:48 PM

In Kelaniya nothing is safe.Their is no law.Sri Lanken voters deserve it.
