Petroleum Resources Minister Susil Premajayantha has suspended all payments by the Petroleum Resources Ministry and is to launch an audit into all the payments and purchases made by the Ministry up to 31st March.

The Minister said that the lack of proper Management had resulted in increased losses by the institutions under the Ministry during the past and steps would be taken to streamline the activities.

The Ceylon Electricity Board owed Rs. 55 billion to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) for fuel it availed and recovery of such arrears would be expedited and reasons for such a situation would be examined, he emphasized.

Productivity of the institutions under the Ministry would be enhanced by strengthening the staff of the institutions, the Minister disclosed. (Daily Mirror online)

Good move! Please clean-up the CPC and the PRDC first and then the Ministry, including officers responsible for monitoring the work of these institutions. The Ministry of Petroleum needs qualifed people; not only SLAS with BSc. degrees but also 'imported' experts, to run the petroleum exploration.

AHM's bank accounts should be audited first...

    Monday, 26 April 2010 12:40 PM

Why not Sack or Ban the previous ministere from holding any postions and the previous Chairman too ( Cricket)

    Monday, 26 April 2010 12:45 PM

    A SHAM

    Monday, 26 April 2010 12:58 PM

Audits have been conducted in the past, however the CPC remains as it has always been; totally corrupt! Can the honorable minister instill professionalism, clamp down on corruption, get rid of nepotism and cronyism?

    Monday, 26 April 2010 01:10 PM

Good ! Set a thief to catch a thief .

    Monday, 26 April 2010 01:32 PM

oh... now distributers will stop distributing petrol until they resume payments as auditing record of such a long period is going to take a long time......

    Monday, 26 April 2010 03:31 PM

Audit Now? why the auditing didnt take place when there was a problem at that time. Yes u can bluff and blunder the stupid idiots who voted for u, not us. There will be an audit when JVP/UNP comes. (soon).

    Monday, 26 April 2010 04:49 PM

As the saying goes " There is no honour among thieves"

    Monday, 26 April 2010 12:21 PM

Will the public see the audit report? We are still waiting to see the report of the Rupavahini debacle and Dr silva.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 05:48 PM

After all the Auditor General's Dept. too needs some work to keep busy the masses it employs. Anyway let's hope there will be no fuel shortage, like the last time ...

    Monday, 26 April 2010 09:50 PM

They all start out this way ... however, it is only for show ...

    Tuesday, 27 April 2010 04:00 AM

does That mean to say that you don't trust your predecessor?

    Tuesday, 27 April 2010 05:12 AM

To come into the limelight all the newly appointed ministers will now be making statements such as this. In the end it will be a question of nobody knowing who did what..

    Tuesday, 27 April 2010 05:22 AM

Er. Audit on petroleum ministry does mean that you will get cheap petrol... what a silly remark. anyway, sri lanka has cheaper petrol when compared to other regional and western countries.

    Tuesday, 27 April 2010 08:13 AM

Never mind the audit , we like to see the petrol from Manner Basin, which was promised by Ela Fowzie sometime back,so that we can get cheap petrol

    Tuesday, 27 April 2010 10:01 AM

How about an independent and impartial audit for all corporations?

    Monday, 26 April 2010 11:03 AM

Very Good, what ever the outcome is do not stop halfway and hush it up.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:43 AM

Whats the use of audits if the wrongdoers go scot free. It will never be completed or put into the w.p.b. A Parliamentary Accounts Committee was there - so was COPE - but was any action taken against the fraudsters who were exposed in these reports? This was why honest people like Wijeyadasa R left the party.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:44 AM

Good move.we need a clean up

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:45 AM

Yes, sack the present staff giving some reasons and get down all the inefficient fellows who blundered the education sector under you in to the petroleum sector. These guys are bound to lose their jobs at the education sector.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:48 AM

Is this to find fault with previous minister and his team?? or to show the public the liabilities of that CPC have??

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:48 AM

Sri Lanka has got an honourable and honest minister. WOW!!!

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:50 AM

You have not done any good to Education. Will see at least Petroleum.,

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:51 AM

Is this the result of the telephone call the former Minister has made during the Presidential election which was mentioned in the newspapers.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:56 AM

That is a good idea. Then we can clear education and improve it by putting talented and educated persons which is a more important section than petroleum.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 10:39 AM

Can we expect petrol for @ Rs. 100.00 per ltr??? good move

    Monday, 26 April 2010 11:17 AM

Good move. He has started in a professional way. Will see whether he continues or not.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 11:17 AM

Wijedasa returned to those who were found guilty in his own report

    Monday, 26 April 2010 11:17 AM

Is only window dressing for effect to show you all that he will do a great job but will go to sleep or make a bigger mess.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 11:26 AM

Good Move and a good start in a professional way. God Bless you sir to do an uncorrupted good job.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 11:38 AM

    Another joke !

    Monday, 26 April 2010 11:47 AM

Why you dont believe the sincerity of your erstwhile colleague FOWZI.......? Now I understand why the President didn't have any faith in FOWZI.....!!!!

    Monday, 26 April 2010 12:20 PM

Well How about Bandula gunawardane doing a audit on Education Ministry ? As he was running previous ministry to the mark. this is just a eye wash. at the end petroleum corp Chairman is well influenced !

Just get on to the job ... no point of wasting tax money
