The police today warned that there are attempts by some groups to mislead the public about the actual situation in Nawalapitiya and Kumburupitiya by giving the impression there is violence and tension.

Head of the police elections unit DIG Gamini Navaratna told Daily Mirror online that the situation in both Nawalapitiya and Kumburupitiya was calm and urged the voters to exercise their franchise without any fear on re-polling day on Tuesday.

He added that the election laws were now active in the two areas and that tight security was provide for both cities. Further he said that there was no reason to be afraid and that people could vote peacefully on Tuesday.

The polls in Nawalapitiya in the Kandy District and Kumburupitiya in Trincomalee were annulled during the recent General Elections owing to reports of violence and vote rigging and a re-poll in these areas will now take place on Tuesday. (Daily Mirror online)

It's high time the so called police acted with dignity and honor cos we simply don't respect them anymore. We still have some great police officers who can uphold the law of this country without any political pressure. Gentlemen, pls get back on track and don't let us the public disgrace your uniform.

It is the crooked cops, who receive benefits from equally crooked politicians, who are misleading the courts and public.

DOnt complain about kelaniya. If the people are foolish enough to vote for those kinds of charachter, they will get what they want and deserve. If its bad or good. so no point in complaining after they asked for these people

Do you think the situation in Kelaniaya is normal.

How a MP can dictate terms for the people outside the parliment ?

I too will agree for the close down of liquor shops at its face value. but what I do not agree is the way it has been done. coz this will create a bad example.

if we allow this at this moment it will be too late for everything
