Around 700 students have returned to school in the Kilinochchi district as five schools in the area re-opened for academic activities today, for the first time after the end of the war.
The schools reopened today were Hindu College in Kilinochchi, St. Fathima Roman Catholic School, Kanaga-Puram Maha Vidyalaya, Hindu Junior School and St. Theresa School.
Speaking to Daily Mirror online, Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasiri said that 350 teachers from Jaffna and Vavuniya were present at the opening ceremony today in Kilinochchi
The Governor stated that students were presented with all the necessary text books, school uniforms and other equipment.
He further said that free transportation facilities will be provided for teachers of these five schools to travel from Jaffna and Vavuniya.
All schools are located in the Karachchi Division of the Kilinochchi district where IDP’s have been resettled.
