Nice! No more uprisings there....guranteed!! Very good.
Thomas Sunday, 27 June 2010 01:12 PM
Army camp can be permanent, but not necessary to build houses for soldiers family to reside on permanent basis. This is what the Tamils & Muslims of the East say forced occupation of the traditional areas.
dagobert Sunday, 27 June 2010 10:21 AM
Yes.
This could be a constant reminder to those who entertain second thoughts OR get duped by the Diasspora.
janaka Sunday, 27 June 2010 10:21 AM
Good move, this will help us in the future...
Kavitha Sunday, 27 June 2010 06:28 AM
if no solution found for Tamil question, the struggle may start from Matara next time.. may not be from NE
ShanShin Sunday, 27 June 2010 06:27 AM
oooh, u assumed Army personnels are all Sinhalese??? This is what problematic..
amal Sunday, 27 June 2010 06:10 AM
we need to understand the root cause. that will be the greatest honor for our lost heroes. we need permanent peace not permanent forces.
Rajitha Sunday, 27 June 2010 05:00 AM
I think you should get your facts right before making these irresponsible posts.
there are permanent army bases in almost all the districts of the country. now it's high time to set them up in the North and the East.
Nishantha Rajapakse Sunday, 27 June 2010 04:56 AM
cardboard commander...
Wasantha Sunday, 27 June 2010 03:01 AM
Whatever you do it should not affect the normal life of the Tamil community. They should have the right to move any part of the Island without any harassment. Nothing is permanent.By formation of army camps do not try to suppress their rights. It would badly affect to build confidence. We need longtime to win the hearts of Tamils. Everything depends on the way how the authorities would treat and deal with them in the future.
Ananda S Sunday, 27 June 2010 02:45 AM
This will certainly help innocent Tamils and Muslims living in these areas to live safely and with more dignity. Army camps are all over the country without any obstruction from the citizen so why not in N & E.
asoka Sunday, 27 June 2010 02:34 AM
Very good move but make sure not to threaten the Maha Nayake Thera's of the Malwatte Chapter.
Ravi Sunday, 27 June 2010 01:00 AM
Tamil Problem Solved!!
Ellepola Sunday, 27 June 2010 12:33 AM
Excellent. please do the same in the North , South and the west.
Mervyn Sunday, 27 June 2010 12:29 AM
The decision to have a permanent Army formation in North and East is a very good one. But it should be not only for the name sake but should be combat ready to withstand any attack at least for 24 hours until additional military support arrives from Colombo. Stationing combat ready members of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces very specially in these areas will not only help to crush down any unknown uprisings but also will give an economical boost to the districts. In reality stationing of combat ready troops should not only be in N & E, but should also be in other districts also. It is well practiced in USA, UK, EU, Russia and other countries. On the other hand it will also help to solve the unemployment problems to a certain degree also. Wish you all the success.

By all means but it should be a multi-ethnic force. Every attempt should be made to win the hearts and minds of the natives.
Gamaralaya Sunday, 27 June 2010 12:22 AM
Yeah! dream on
aranga de silva Sunday, 27 June 2010 12:04 AM
Good thing to prevent any kind of future terrorism........hope these army personel will live peacefully with our tamil brothers and sisters..................
Anura Saturday, 26 June 2010 11:58 PM
why don't you have army camps everywhere in south and rest of the country as well?
PinGona Saturday, 26 June 2010 11:34 PM
very good move
Karu Saturday, 26 June 2010 11:27 PM
Great way to change demographics and make sure no tamils enter parliament. When will we start thinking of them as equals.
samisa Saturday, 26 June 2010 11:16 PM
So no intension of letting those people to come out from the fear?
maxx Saturday, 26 June 2010 10:12 PM
Very good move. Never again the North be infested by terrorism. As terrorist have now several home lands (Canada, Australia, UK, NZ, etc), Sri Lanka must protect its borders.
raj Saturday, 26 June 2010 09:57 PM
we need forces of peace, and not the army. If there is no peace, everythingn is nothing
nanda Saturday, 26 June 2010 09:52 PM
No houses for those who lost their property. This is another way of colonising. Well done Raja
RajasH Saturday, 26 June 2010 08:50 PM
why only NE , why not Matra, Anurathpura and other southern area. Tamils to grow up at the point of the gun?
Saro Saturday, 26 June 2010 08:49 PM
They can also make Emergency rule permanent so that Tamils and Muslims can be ruled by the army.
Bhumi Saturday, 26 June 2010 08:47 PM
Excellent strategic move to counter separatism.
Jananayakan Saturday, 26 June 2010 08:16 PM
Who does need army occupation in north and east? The Tamil people need a political solution and not army occupation. The successive government actions show that Tamils have been in the Island before the Sinhalese, if not why do they fight with Tamils and occupy the land belongs to Tamils. The Prelate says foreigners buying land… does he mean Tamils?
Who-is-notaTerrorist Saturday, 26 June 2010 08:12 PM
It is totally acceptable and army has a duty to protect the country and stay ready for the emergency situations whenever necessity arises. I can remember during UNP regime, the government employed army for the construction purpose and for the land preparation work where the shortage of work men and women. This way army can help the government by earning the revenue as well as by providing assistance to complete the urgent work in the area.
