But, what are you doing to improve the greenary in Yala, despite earning massive income. We visited this pary last year. There are no signs of any new tree planting, as there are still large spots without much trees. Need to plant fruit bearing trees, which will support more birds

But no toilet inside the park rest place . Bunglows are pathetic not looked after or up graded whats the point . 500 jeeps a day inside the park per day what is the point ....money , money for how long untill u destroy the park. Is it worth it ????

This is where the wild life department gets it wrong. They only worry about the money they make. The park is over crowded and you end up leaving the park in dissapointment. It was a first hand experience for me, Where you hardy see any animals. I will not return back to tue park and waste my time and money. Regulate the amount of jeeps going into the park to 100 jeeps a day, and go visit some of the biggest parks in Africa. If not Yala wilp be know as a overrated park and you will not have any returning visitors again.

All these collection goes to the treasury and at least a reasonable amount was not spent on the development of these national treasures. Last December a group of us stayed nights at Ondachci bungalow in Yala, Broken taps in Toilets, flushes don't function in addition the water pumped from the nearby lake is dark brown and muddy! don't they have money even to filter the water? Cooking is done with the same water, mattresses and linen are dirty not replaced for years. SO THERE'S NOTHING TO BOAST by the Ministers or the concerned ministry. Tour operators ply at their own speed and avoid road bumpers by driving at edges of roads at the risk of the travelers this bad action deteriorate the roads? Is there anyone to look after these valuable asserts of our country?

The two comments made here are absolutely spot on! Although the parks generated more than Rs 2 billion, it doesnt appear that even 10% of this has been spent for the welfare of the animals and the environment that attracts that kind of income. This was the case some years ago, and it is till the same. If the horse really dies, as it is bound to soon, you cannot flog it anymore. Or the Hen that is laying Golden eggs will also die.The income generated goes directly into the Treasury coffers, and the parks only get an annual allocation which basically covers the salaries of employees and a pitiful amount to improve the parks.

Very pathetic, no proper toilets and infrastructure. Just boosting on revenue won't help this place to be a better one

With all these income lets buy duty free car for our ministers.

    Jude Sunday, 18 February 2018 09:27 AM

I guess half that income came from Nature Lover Hon.Sajith Premadasa the Leader-in-waiting!!!???

    mike Sunday, 18 February 2018 09:31 AM

idiots of yahapalanaya should realize poor animals suffer without no of people / jeeps being restricted for a day. india certain parks only 25 jeeps per day. go on rape the country

    Raj Sunday, 18 February 2018 10:16 AM

Real sad news that we have exploited the wildlife Over the next 20 years this income will reduce to Zero if nothing is done to control the traffic and make it sustainable. Can assure nothing will be done

I used to go there frequently. Now I will not go again. The park is overcrowded. More tourists and few animals. Jeep mafia. A disaster. via DM Android App

Believe me, next time you visit Yala , you would see animals tied on to trees near by the safari route including some animals from Africa.

    Ceylon Sunday, 18 February 2018 04:20 PM

Pls tell us where the money Will end up. Probably it will vanish into thin air. Could this government enlighten the people how the money from the highway is used???
