Will increase forest cover to 32%: President

President Maithripala Sirisena, who arrived in Rome to attend the 24th session of the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO 24), said Sri Lanka was well set to increase its forest cover to 32 percent.

“Arrived in the beautiful city of Rome to attend the COFO 24. Looking forward to talk about Sri Lanka's progress as we are well set to increase our forest cover to 32 percent,” the President tweeted.

    There should be more and more green initiative to plant trees islandwide and strictly cut emissions and smoke from vehicles. the biggest threat to our environment is air pollution by vehicles.In no city, people can breath fresh clean air on the road. everywhere we see vehicle with smoke that to a significant amount. there should be hefty fine for vehicles with smoke despite have an emission certificate from testing centers. this creates the doubts in our mind that these emission testing centers are actually doing their job properly
