The Joint Opposition (JO) today questioned whether President Maithripala Sirisena was informed of the agreement signed to sell 80 percent of shares of the Hambantota Port to a Chinese firm.
The President is also the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
Addressing a news conference, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said Subject Minister Arjuna Ranatunga had not even been informed of the decision.
“When asked, the government says it was the Prime Minister and Minister Malik Samarawickrama, who were in charge of decision making. If it is true, then what is the point of having a Ports and Shipping Minister? Decision related to the Hambantota Port had been taken bypassing the Minister. He had only been briefed once everything was finalised,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said a shady deal of US$ 100 mn had taken place in Hong Kong in line with handing over the Southern Port to China.
“We request the President to probe into this corrupt deal,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)

This man thinks that every government transaction is "corrupt". He cannot think beyond things which happened during their time!
