The Sri Lanka Army Engineers Corps has trained mongooses to detect explosives. Army engineers said mongooses are cost effective compared to sniffer dogs that have to be imported at a cost of Rs.200,000 each. The mongooses training project ‘Human Animal Integrated System For Explosives Detection’ was launched in 2016.
