A team of Thai Engineers yesterday carried out a feasibility study in the catchments areas of Castlereigh and Maussakele reservoirs to cause artificial rains in view of the prevailing drought. They had arrived on the request of the Ceylon Electricity Board.
The only organisation patented to cause artificial rains in drought affected regions is in Thailand. Engineers of the organisation said that they with the help of the Thai Government had caused artificial rains in several countries affected by droughts. A CEB Engineer said the Thai Engineers had caused artificial rains in Castlereigh and Maussakele areas during a drought in 1981.
Sri Lanka Air Force, the Mahaweli Development Authority, the Central Environmental Authority and the CEB joined the inspection. (Ranjith Rajapakse)

Thailand's king Bhumibol Adulyadej got the rights to artificial rain-making technique. He worked hard to help thai farmers.
CLOUD SEEDING Wednesday, 21 February 2018 11:59 AM
Nothing New - CEB seeded the clouds with the help of the Air Force during the early 70s. For it to be a success there have to be rain clouds over the area. No rain clouds No rain ! Whether it is a King or Polico !

Hope the CEB will not give them any electric shocks?

These are work for the Physicsts and Chemists and certainly not for the engineers. In the third world countries as there are no deep research done anywhere, doctors and engineers have great time and fool every one as “experts”.

hope now real environmentalist should come forward and explain the real threat from this artificial rain, hope only the wilpattu should not be the real environmental issue
Dhammika Wednesday, 21 February 2018 11:29 AM
This artificial RAIN is a short term solution BUT have a nation wide long term policy on tree replanting as a permanent remedy .
Angel Wednesday, 21 February 2018 11:29 AM
nothing good in things artificial. Look at natural ways to increase rain. Anything artificial has lot of side effects health wise.

This is what 1977 did to us. Coconut from China, Rice from Bangladesh, Fertilizer from Pakistan, rain from Thailand. We only export people as slaves. Hell yeah lets go down the same path for another 10 years and then complain that we dont even produce a pin.
bendunk Wednesday, 21 February 2018 01:40 PM
true - however it's good if we are in a position to produce agricultural produce than pins and similar 'equipment' we still have pure air due to the lack of large scale manufacturing (check the pollution from India, China, Russia, Turkey etc) in a perfect scenario we should focus on agriculture and knowledge services and not manufacture electric appliances etc.

and the whatever device you used to type that comment. be grateful for 1977

Sambo Wednesday, 21 February 2018 05:31 PM
Cant we get artificial people to run our government?
Jaliya Thursday, 22 February 2018 08:14 AM
Those areas affected are a disaster that is man made. When there are no clouds and where you can see the stars during the day light .... don't expect much of anything to fall out of the sky. If you concern of the environment ....natural rainfall less pollution STOP CUTTING TREES and start planting greenery it will help the next and many future generations to come.

Another racket in the making. We have seen this been carried unsuccessfully in the past and a waste of money. Nobody sought to analyse this issue correctly and the fraudsters got away.
