On the instructions of President Sirisena, the Cabinet today decided to suspend the programme to provide Advanced Level students and teachers with Tabs, the Cabinet spokesman said.
Among the reasons for the suspension were the huge amount of money that would be incurred to purchase tabs, problems in the tender procedure and the possibility of utilising these funds for essential projects in the education sector.
According to a 2017 Budget proposal, around 160,000 A/L students and 36,000 teachers were to be given tabs, at an estimated cost of Rs. 4 billion. (Ajantha Kumara Agalakada)

Way to move forward. If they have given , May be 95% of the student will misuse while 05 will be benefited . We should keep out children away from these smart gadget such as smart phones and tabs as we shouldn't let them to loose their childhood.

Those who are afraid of this initiative are living in stone era. There are so many ways of controlling the misuse of these equipment. Blocking this initiative is closing the door for the future. Leaders should be visionary.

It common sense, for not giving into president's request, he will prevent UNP activities.

Good decision. Sri Lankan students are spoon fed everything from LKG to post graduate. And then some become money making machines and most block the roads in protest of silly things.

Bad Sirisena sorry for the country. No future for our younger generation. Sirisena thinks only Power in SLFP. Bad leader in our history.

Instead of giving tabs, do something to improve English language in schools. English is going from bad to worse since there are no proper English educated teachers in Sri Lanka. Those who read, write and speak correct English are becoming the odd lot in front of poorly educated youngsters nowadays which is really a pathetic situation.
