The Presidential Secretariat and Railway Department together with Airtel have jointly organised a special train titled ‘Puravesi Athwela’ (Humanitarian Train) to collect relief material to be distributed to those who were affected by the recent floods and landslides.
The special train facilitated at the following stations: Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Madawachchiya, Anuradhapura, Maho, Ganewatta, Kurunegala, Polgahawela, Alawwa, Ambepussa, Meerigama, Veyangoda, Gampaha, Ganemulla, Ragama, Hunupitiya, Kelaniya, Dematagoda, Maradana, Fort, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa and Panadura. The partnership provided aid for over 5000 affected victims.
Finance and Mass Media Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, MP Malith Jayathilake, Coordinating President’s Secretary Shiral Lakthilaka, Fort Station Superintendent W.P. Sarath Kumara and Airtel Chief Marketing Officer Chandrashekhar Singh Chauhan welcomed the train with relief goods, which came from Kankesanthurai to the Colombo Fort railway station
