The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said that it had restored the power interruption in the Colombo area a short while ago.

Energy Ministry Secretary Dr Suren Batagoda said as he was informed by the CEB engineers, it was identified by them as a software malfunction.

However, after five hours, the power was restored in the Pannipitiya, Dehiwela, Sri Jayewardenepura and Ratmalana areas.

Power was interrupted in Pannipitiya, Dehiwela, Sri Jayewardenepura and Ratmalana this morning due to the tripping of Pannipitiya - Biyagama 220 kV transmission line at about 7.20 a.m.

Software cannot malfunction, it is logic based, thus unless an incorrect logic input was given or a warning from the software was not hindered, then the software itself will open or close a system. However in a country of majority fools, this will be believed.

Never heard of a thing called software bugs? Guys like you won't help to build a nation. Always trying to blame someone.

Anyway, if the software was the problem, consider new underwear or hardware? After all, we have so many hardware shops all over!!!

Wow123, a software bug cannot down a 220kV line, it will give ample warning before that happens. Further, the software is well tested on its logic b4 commissioned into such critical applications. Don't compare blooming Windows software to those used in critical industrial applications.

As an IT engineer this explanation is very serious. If it is a software malfunction it may or will occur again. I think it may have been a human error. No one admits this error.

this is all bullshit . I am from dehiwela and power failed at 3.30 am in the morning and restored at 5.30 am. Again it failed at 7.10 am and restored @12 in the afternoon . We were informed by saumya kumarawadu its due to high tension cable failure . Personally i think its sabotage CEB engineering mafia where kumarawadu is the unoin leader !!! And they are on a work to rule !!!
