Festering garbage mounds in Colombo has been all cleared up and the city is now completely clean, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka said today.
He said the Colombo Beautification Unit which was set up to carry out the task with the assistance of the tri-forces after the Meethotamulla garbage dump collapsed, had accomplished the task. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

I thought the assignment given to Ranawaka was to present a plan for future garbage handling. His clearing the city from garbage already dumped does not mean that he accomplished the task.

that I thought was the job of the CMC. I am sure Champika is not the mayor of Colombo

Mr.Patali Champika . You have been in charge of this subject matter from the day you became a Minister in 2004. Why did you wait till the explosion took place. You could have got involved under many ministries you held Electricty - to convert garbage to electricity, Science - to make garbage into compost, electricity, UDA to clean the city and do the above mentioned. Why did you wait. Did you want the people to suffer your laziness?
