Lord Buddha would have been so gratified to see this ceremony with the Mahanayake sitting on a Sinhasanaya! Is this Buddhism today?

I am a Buddhist. A good one I believe. This picture makes me ashamed. Did not Buddha restrict high and mighty seating ? ( Ucchasayana Mahasayana) What is this nonsense. Our priests ( monks they ought to be) can take a lesson from Pope Francis on humility.

Can someone enlighten me whether Lord Buddha did want such a straitjacketed 'power' structure to spread his teachings, given that he renounced everything that was a distraction to self realisation.

Isn’t it a disgraceful act to have our president fall at the feet of a Buddhist monk!? Even the Buddha would disapprove of this behavior. All humans are equal these cultural practices must represent that.

Two observations: 1. The President and PM don't see eye to eye. (one before last pic), 2. The seat between Chamal and Ranil was reserved for Mahinda and he was absent (last pic)

This is not the first shameful religious act done by politicians. In the future we will see many more as Buddhist monks are now in the forefront of politics, embracing politicians. By right they must say what ever they wish to say as advice from their respective temples and that will be in line with Buddha's teachings.

Sadly, sometimes our monks don't even stand for the National Anthem also.

Sri Lanka is a multicultural country , this kind of practice would not help harmony between religions , this lead to "sinhala only " era, remember ?!
