Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement addressing the estate Tamil Indian factions at the Norwood area was a fillip to separatism, the National University Teachers Association (NUTA) said today.

Issuing a statement NUTA General Secretary Dr. Channa Jayasumana said the core of PM Modi’s statement based only for the upcountry Tamil factions and not focused on other Tamil communities in the country.

“PM Modi said the Indian Tamils are maintaining the Indian culture. His influence to do so is discouraging those people to assimilate into the Sri Lankan culture. We also condemn that he addressed these people as part of the Indian Diaspora,” he said.

“Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims in the country suffered due to the terrorism that was created and backed by Indian politics and secret services. Therefore it is our responsibility not to repeat the past mistakes in future,” he said.

“PM Modi had treated plantation sector Indian Tamils as a faction within an Indian State without considering them as people, who lives in a neighbouring foreign country. It could lead to different mentality in those people. Those people do not belong to India or any other country as they are Sri Lankans,” Dr. Jayasumana said. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

Dr.Jayasumana,PM Modi told his feelings. You don't have to be upset about it. If you are that worried about another faction of Sri Lankans, please talk about them and make arrangements to do the needful to them without wasting your time to find short comings in other's statement. Have ever done anything to the other faction that you are worried about. Please don't try to fool people.

Ok Lokka,You come out with a proper solution for their domestic issues they are encountering for decades then we will ask Modi to withdraw all his pledges to the upcountry Tamils. At least sigh for someone else is trying to find a solution which the government cannot do immediately due to prevailing financial crisis.

what Mr Modi did was a wonderful gesture. our politicians will never ever build houses for the poor masses of up country estate sector because that will lose the voter base. they can keep promising and hold the carrot over and over again and that is exactly what they are doing

well i dont see no big deal here... if your living in Americal you may be called an indian american,,, here the root cause is not calling your self as a common identity which is sri lanka rather, people segregated into race and are identified as a race. this should be abolished

NUTA should concentrate as to why our graduates have gradually become unemployable graduates instead of commenting on Political Issues. They should find out why University Education and Universities provide poor skills, training

When Mahinda Rajapaksha visited USA and other countries he addressed the Sri Lanka diaspora in USA and other countries. There was no problem created by any priest, doctors or teachers. Why when Modi address the Indian Diaspora you are creating problems ? Racism at it's best.

Murali, What you don’t understand here is SL leaders address Sri Lankans in foreign countries. However Modi addressed not Indians but Sri Lankans. You can’t compare these two incidence.
