Melstacorp, one of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates and renowned corporate citizens, completed their latest CSR initiative at the rural hospital of Thammannawa in Mihinthale, recently.
Thammannawa hospital provides medical assistance to thousands of people from surrounding areas and was in dire need of basic facilities.
The company invested in renovating the hospital and provided it with much needed facilities with the support of the medical staff, hospital development committee and residents of the area. Under Melstacorp’s initiation, all wards of the hospital including the OPD were renovated, tiled and color washed whilst lavatories were repaired with aluminum doors, and fences were restored. The company complemented the new look of the hospital with a new name board and also donated a lawn mower for the maintenance of the garden. In addition to all this, Melstacorp also organised a free eye clinic with the support of Help Age Sri Lanka and distributed 150 free spectacles to those in need.
Commenting on the CSR initiative, Melstacorp’s T. B. Jayasundara said, “Going by our vision of helping those who need it most, we decided to renovate the Thammannawa rural hospital as it serves thousands of people from the area and also because of the great dedication to service shown by the hospital staff and the hospital development committee. We are happy to have transformed the hospital into a place that heals both body and mind.”
